As a follow up to my “10 Songs to Cruise To” Post I have decided to come up with another list of 10 rainy day songs.

This one should be really popular amongst all my fellow citizens of Vancouver.

The Cure – Plainsong (from Disintegration)
Garbage – I’m Only Happy When It Rains (from Garbage)
REM – I’ll Take The Rain (from Reveal)
The Carpenters – Rainy Days and Mondays
Leonard Cohen – Famous Blue Raincoat (from Best Of)
Esthero – Superheroes (from Breath From Another)
Blue Rodeo – Rain Down On Me
Cowboy Junkies – Souther Rain (from Black Eyed Man)
The Doors – Riders on the Storm
U2 – Love Comes Tumbling

Enjoy… and please comment. It’s often rainy out here in Lotus Land

Happy when it rains – the Jesus and mary chain.

Yup, it was a rainy day today! Let’s revive this thread!

    My suggestions:
    Enya – Only Time
Aha – I’m crying when it rains
    Chris Isaak – Blue Moon
    James – Sometimes

    Enjoy 🙂

  • Phillip

Rod Stewart performing Have You Ever Seen The Rain

It started to Rain – amos lee (yeah! shouldn’t need to have “rain” in the title though this one does!)
Elevator Beat – Vanilla Sky soundtrack

  • larry

Great list. My only recommendation is that you don’t have to have the word rain in your song to be a good rainy day song. If I could add one it would be Moonlight Mile by The Rolling Stones(off Sticky Fingers)

  • Dave

    XTC-Ballet for a Rainy Day
    Jimi Hendrix-Rainy Day

  • This weekend I will be updating this list for 2010!

  • ruben

Flowers in the rain – The Move
Rainy day in June – The Kinks
    Rain – The Beatles
Rainy Day – The (Young) Rascals
I see the Rain – Marmalade
The Rain, the park and other Things – The cowsills
    Bus Stop – The Hollies

  • Joe

    Jolene-The Weepies

  • come on! where’s madonna’s rain?

  • Jack Johnson – Banana Pancakes
    Mika – Rain

The Doors – Riders of the Storm

  • Do_Face_Gremlin

The Who – Love Reign O’er Me

  • Dog_Face_Gremlin

The Blue Nile – Tinseltown in the Rain This is an over looked rainy day song.

Got to love Paramore- When it Rains, great song. And anything by REM is perfect.

  • Sylvz

I’m making my own “Rainy Days” list.
I too had Famous Blue Raincoat, and another one of The Cure’s songs – To wish impossible things. A beautiful tune, but I do love Plainsong also. 🙂 I may have to reconsider!

  • yuyka

    what about Guster´s Rainy day?

  • I love it!! I’m using some of these songs in a care package to my friend as a “mix tape”… I couldn’t ever find the Cowboy Junkies tune… but I much approve of this list! 🙂

  • Brewer

I love this list. I’ve been working on one for about 10 years and reordering it. I don’t know why, but I’ve never considered the Cure, and a lot of their music is perfect. A couple of other groups to consider: Wilco (Anything from Summerteeth), The Postal Service (particularly Umbrella) and a good portion of The Suburbs catalogue are always worthy contenders. And, of course, Rain by the Beatles.

  • Matt

Damn straight, nothing says driving in Vancouver like Cowboy Junkies

  • What, no Eurhythmics? Here comes the rain again…
