Watermelon Agua Fresca To Kick Off Summer Right

I'm always the first one to be game for a fun, fruity alcoholic drink, but lately, I've been playing around with non-alcoholic fruit drinks when I'm entertaining. They're easy to doctor up for those who prefer a little alcohol kick but by keeping them virgin, The kids are able to partake as well.

My latest favorite drink to whip up are aguas frescas, a refreshing Mexican concoction made with fresh fruit juices, a dash of sugar, and lots of cold water. I discovered agua frescas during a recent trip to San Francisco. I was standing on line at Mijita in the Ferry Building, looking over the menu, when I spied three massive drink dispensers filled with delicious looking fruit drinks in strawberry, melon, and watermelon flavors. I chose watermelon and it was served non-fussily in a large plastic tumbler.

I replicated the freshness of aguas frescas easily at home with half a watermelon, a couple of lemons, and a little help from my ageing blender. It was so good that we've been whipping them up regularly, greedily guzzling the fresh sweetness of watermelon. If you're having a Memorial Day BBQ this weekend, give this drink a try, I guarantee your guests will be delighted with this unusual and delicious drink.
