Sutter Creek… Sutter… Sutter… where have I heard that name before? Go back to fourth grade history class. That was the place gold was first discovered in California. This eventually led to California being established as a state. One can claim this also led to the civil war, because the south was upset that California was a free state, rather than a slave state. It also — all right, all right, enough with the history.
As you may know (or maybe you don't), I’m a fifteen-year-old girl, just about the age where you start outgrowing some family vacations. I was extremely upset when I found out my twin got to pick this summer’s vacation and she picked some safari in northern California. Now, I know, you may be thinking I’m a spoiled brat, because my parents are paying all this money for this trip, but you could have gotten a cruise for the same price! There are two main problems with this trip. First of all, I have to sleep on the floor of a room I have to share with my parents. Second of all, there is no way my parents were going to fly up to the safari. So, I was going to be stuck in a car for six hours. I hate cars.
Wait, go back! What does a safari have to do with Sutter Creek? Oh, yeah. Anyway, I was, being a teenager, protesting having to go on this lame family trip. My mom knows I’m a history buff. So, as a compromise to make me enjoy the trip a little more, she booked us two nights at the Hanford House.
The Hanford House is a real bed-and-breakfast inn run by Bob and Karen Tierno. There are eleven rooms that range from $109-$229 dollars a night. My sister and I are staying in the blue room. It’s so beautiful.
I love that the people that run the inn are so friendly. Unlike the staff of a regular hotel, the people here really care. Breakfast is complimentary. Also, at 5:00 PM, they serve wine (for those of us that are of age) and crackers. Downstairs, they have a big screen TV, computer with Internet, and a DVD library. I’m actually sitting down there now, it’s very soothing. I forgot to mention the best part—THEY HAVE WiFi! My rule of thumb is any place that carries WiFi is sacred and should be worshiped. No, I’m totally just kidding. But WiFi's always nice, huh?
