Growing up, I hated drinking water. It was the liquid equivalent of homework.

I often vacation in the Colorado mountains, and the tap water up there is excellent. I can't say that it's tasteless, but very... spring-like. They need to bottle that stuff.

I live in Kansas, though, so there aren't many pristine brooks. It's all wells, and all hard.

I always buy Dasani- even though it has added minerals. If I wanted Aquafina I'd go to my kichen sink... oh the beauty of Memphis tap water.

Dasani is Calgary municipal tap water recycled & filtered. I'm from Canada, so I know. Google "Dasani + Calgary" and see for yourself.

As opposed to the new-car smelling, new water? Oh wait, people don't exactly manufacture water in a factory. It all does come from some place.

The moral of the story? I still drink Dasani water, but I prefer to use tap water when I brush my teeth.

    Is the US blind?

Dasani's new slogan is "The water, that makes your mouth water" and for good reason, too. Because of this "negligible" amount of salt they add into it, you're going to want to drink more because you are thirsty! There is absolutely no reason to put salt into water, unless maybe you're trying to make a nice environment for ocean fish.

Why drink water made from a company that specializes in caffeinated, high fructose corn syrup, calorie packed sodas? Do you honestly think Coca-Cola cares enough about people's health that they'll make a quality water product? I don't think so.

In the UK, Dasani was "purified" tap water full of bromate. The US doesn't have high standards when it comes to health, so what's to say Dasani isn't going to have carcinogens here?

I absolutely despise Dasani. It's a joke of a water product. It makes me retain fluid, a lot like what happens if I eat salty foods or take Aleve (naproxen sodium). It's awful.

I just can't understand why water, one of the very things that gave life to this planet, is turning into crap.

There's something wrong when water is making people sick.

Dasani's "unique" blend of minerals include Magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt - a laxative), Potassium chloride (which is what is used intraveneously for lethal injections), and common salt.

Is it the taste people are addicted to, or to the salt?

why epsom salt? why salt? why potassium chloride?

Yeah. How about we stop buying bottled water if we can avoid it. Yes, we can recycle the plastic, but most people don't and it just fills up the landfills. How about we buy a nalgene bottle and carry our water ever day? Oh, yeah - people are lazy.

I am privileged to have San Francisco water from my kitchen tap, and it's delicious. It comes from glacier melt, from the Hetch-Hetchy glacier in Yosemite as a matter of fact. Crosses the state in two huge 6 foot tubes and empties into Crystal Springs Reservoir at the lovely Pulgas Water Temple in Woodside, which, as it happens, I just visited a couple of hours ago.

Of course, flourine and chlorine are added, for public health reasons, but the lazy days that the glacier milk spends in our bucolic reservoirs enhances the taste by addition of dissolved atmospheric oxygen, just like a babbling brook, and makes it quite delicious.

To make it even more tasty one is advised to draw water from the hot water tap so that most of the (flat-tasting) chlorine is driven off (by the hot water heater), having served it's purpose by this point.

Then, cool it in the refrigerator for added refreshment. Very tasty!

If you require higher taste thrills, add a packet of Splenda to the 2 quart refrigerator bottle and squeeze in the juice of half a Meyer Lemon from in front of the house. Or a lime or even a bit of Roses Lime juice from the store. You need no more.

For a tasty 'replenisher' on the trail when hiking or biking, add 2 teaspoons of REI 'Dynalite' replenisher to each quart of water (one half the recommended dose) and then fill the 16 oz. bottles you've recovered from your profligate friends who pay too much for too little.

    Enjoy!

um...you know that Dasani is just rebottled tap water? Coke is under a lot of pressure right now for not labeling their bottles as such. Your argument is total bollocks.

A lot of people here are absolutely right. Dasani was found to contain Bromate - 10 X the safe level (UK). Bromate is known to cause cancer but there's no suggestion that the amount in a bottle of Dasani is enough to do that. I suppose prolonged drinking of Dasani (IMHO) can't be reccommended. The Bromate comes about during the purification process. Coca-cola add Calcium Chloride (Salt) containing Bromide which is not harmful in the doses used. This is done to make the water,(which is normal tap water), taste better. However, the next stage of their purification process involved pumping ozone thru the water which caused the Bromide to change into Bromate which is a known cancer causing carcenogen.

Also note that Bromate is thought to reduce sexual desire and cause some tiredness. Also, salt dehydrates which contradicts the purpose of drinking water.

We are now several years on from when this product was recalled and banned from the UK and I've no idea if Coca-cola still use the same process. It would not surprise me if they do.

First of all yes one of the ingredients is magnesium sulfate which is a salt. The magnesium sulfate that is added is added isnt so much to make you want the water more out of thirst as it is added to improve taste. And yes it is a laxative. Sucks huh.

By far the best tasting water that I've ever had is Ice River Springs. It's the real deal, not tap water. Try one and you'll find it is superior to Dasani and Evian.

    Do you work for Dasani?

  • 50 - you are dumb

you are a dumbass, if you want the "filtered taste" buy a fucking filter then use it to filter ur tap water instead of buying a fucking bottle of water every time.

Water will taste bad for a few reasons:

-dissolved minerals that are not tasty

-excess chlorine that makes it taste dry

    -insufficient dissolved oxygen.

The latter is very important. Dissolved oxygen is the reason that babbling brook water (which contains lots of aerated air from all that babbling) tastes much better than distilled water, which is basically tasteless.

Chlorine makes water taste like "Old Swimming Poole Squeezings" which reminds you of the odor of an over-chlorinated swimming pool. That's why you want water from the hot water tap, cooled in the refrigerator.

Well, I don't know what they did to the tap water we used to get in our old apartment, but it tasted as if they threw a couple of handfuls of dirt into every glass.

Fortunately we've now moved to the next city and the water there is tolerable, although we still use Brita filtered water for drinking.

Dasani is STILL banned in the UK for containing 10x the legal limit of Bromate which is a potent carcinogen. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've got other choices for my bottled water than one containing a KNOWN carcinogen. I mean, come on, leftover waste water from making soda?! What do they take us for, total dunces!?

Of course dasani is derived from local sources and filtered, big deal, at least they are not taking from one source and then having to use more oil, that you hippies complain about all the oil we waste on producing the bottles, on transportation, FILTERED WATER IS FILTERED WATER.
