Growing up, I hated drinking water. It was the liquid equivalent of homework. The only drink that was worse to me was milk. Years later, bottled water has become one of my favorite drinks, and Dasani is the brand that I drink most often.
It's In The Bottle
Many people decry the popularity of bottled water. The idea of paying for water when they can pour a glass from the faucet seems wasteful, but they are wrong. It's not the water that you're paying for; it's the packaging and filtering. The last time I poured a glass of water from my tap, I was sadly disappointed. Dasani water is conveniently packaged in various size plastic bottles. The bottles make it easy to store in the refrigerator, carry with you to work, or throw on the ground while you play your favorite sport. Dasani even has several convenient refrigerator packs that stow large quantities of water easily.
Taste Is King
One of the reasons I frequently choose Dasani is the taste. I can hear the protests already, "But you can't taste water!" That's the point. Good water is virtually tasteless. Too often, I will purchase a discount or generic brand of water, and I am overwhelmed with the milky taste of minerals and calcium. Try your local tap water and see if you can detect the chlorinated taste of poorly filtered water. Dasani isn't the best tasting water I've ever had, but it's real good. It has a clean, virtually tasteless texture that goes down easily. There's nothing worse than a bottle of water that leaves you feeling heavy.
Availability, Availability, Availability and Cost
The most important factors are availability and cost. I can find Dasani in any grocery. It is in most restaurants and even in many fast-food establishments. Frequently, it can even be found in vending machines, and the cost is just right. Sure, it isn't as cheap as generic brands, but it also is much more affordable than designer brands such as Fiji.
So, the next time you plunk down some change for a sugary soda, take a look and see if Dasani water is available. You'll be hydrated faster, stay healthier, and be able to better savor the taste of your meal. Better yet, stock your fridge with one of those handy fridge packs.

dasani is slightly bizarre in that it's 'manufactured': it's purified water with minerals added back in.
what a country.
2 - Nicholas
Yea, but it hydrates you when you need it too.
3 - Mark Saleski
oh, i'm not dissin' it or anything.
i just think that the manufactured aspect is a little freaky.

erm... Dasani was banned in the UK as it was poisonous!

Ah, so we're reviewing water, are we? You asked for it then. I've been testing out every brand I can find for a comprehensive review. Brace yourselves.

You're right it's definitely a little strange. Probably, has to do with quality control or some other manufacturing term.
7 - Nicholas
I bet half the things we eat and drink in the US would be banned in the UK.

stands a chance!! wish we had twinkies though.. they are the nicest thing ever..... have to say cadbury beat the crap out of hershy every time(sorry)... hershy tastes like VERY sour milk.. so sour there are lumps in it.

Dave,
I look forward to your comprehensive review. My personal favorite on the basis of taste is Fuji. However, I find it very expensive and hard to find. For flavored water, I like Berry flavored Propel and Cherry flavored Clearly Canadian.

I hear the FDA is recalling all poison for being poisonous

I think Fiji is the water. Fuji is the film company. Anyway, I love Dasani too. My personal favorite water.

Good point. it is Fiji. Woops.

Gah! Dasani is nothing but local tap water boiled and run through filters by your local bottler. If you want true, good bottled water get Ozarka. It comes from a real spring in Texas and has a cool crisp taste when cold with a hint of natural sweetness (minerals). Very, very good stuff. Comes in a variety of packaging, too.
Memphis, where I'm from, has excellent tap water. We sit right on top of a major aquifer. Our water is so good, in fact, that it's bottled and sold in stores! Also very good right from the faucet.
Wasn't there a water on the market some years ago that came from melted glacier water in Alaska? Whatever happened to it?
14 - Nicholas
I'm from lower Alabama. The water here isn't that great. A friend of mine from Texas was telling me about Ozarka, but I've never seen it in stores here.
I'll keep an eye out for it, but I'm sure if I do see it, it will be way overpriced.

I have found I like the purified water over spring water. I recently switched from putting a case of Poland SPring under my work desk to Nestle, but Dannon is not bad, and my family generally gets Dasani for the home which is decent. Not big on flavored water, but Propel is decent.
16 - Nicholas
I like Poland Springs a lot, but Dasani always wins on availability. In my grocery store, it's right next to the sodas. my wife gets Sprite and I pick up Dasani.

Hey Mike. My parents live across the bridge in Marion, AR. I never got to taste Memphis water growing up. I'll have to try it when I am back home one of these days.

Have you tried those 'Pur' faucet filters? Those should be included in the comprehensive review.
19 - Nicholas
I suppose a comprehensive review should include water filters as well. It wouldn't work for me though. Part of the charm of bottled water is the convenience factor.
20 - Keefer
When I lived in Las Vegas, I tried the 'Pur' water filter once. Maybe the water is just too hard there but I couldn't tell that the filter even worked. I didn't buy another one because I didn't think the price justified a better quality of drinking water. I only trust the bottled stuff.

We have great water right from the tap, too.
Nicholas, try this: buy one 12-pack of Dasani, save the bottles, refill from the tap, chill. Chilled water tastes different than the same stuff right from the tap, *and* it's in those convenient bottles, too!
22 - Nicholas
DrPat: Good points. There are just a few problems.
1) That only solves the problem of when I'm at home. What if I'm at Subway? or at work, etc. The work vending machine dispenses Dasani water. Subway sells Dasani bottled water as does McDonalds.
2) It's still a lot more trouble.

"erm... Dasani was banned in the UK as it was poisonous!"
Untrue. I should know, I live here.
Dasani wasn't banned - there was a public outcry about the fact that we were quite literally being sold tap water in bottles (a friend of mine lives in the town where they bottled it, and said it tasted exactly like her kitchen tap water).
Specifically, Coca-Cola were accused of 'Trotter Independent Trading' tactics, after the comedy show 'Only Fools and Horses', centred around a couple of conmen. One of their scams involved them bottling tap water and selling it to people, and that's the first thing people over here thought of.
Dasani wasn't banned, it got pulled from the shelves after one of the biggest marketing disasters in history.
Have you tried Evian? That has practically no taste, and it doesn't come from a tap either.
[Americans: Tap = faucet]
24 - Anthony Grande
Dasani is too plain. It is all about sparkletts.
25 - Dasani
No, you are wrong Charamei.
Dasani was pulled because it was found that there were traces of bromate that were leftover from the purifying process. Bromate causes cancer!!!
Turns out that Dasani is just leftover waste water from the soda making process. Someone came up with the idea to purify it, and add things into the water to make it taste "crisp," and then mark up the price 30x. Too bad they discovered in the UK that leftover minerals from the purifying process added deadly carcinogens.
If you dont believe me, or want to learn more, google Dasani + cancer. You will find many reliable sources about why Dasani was truly pulled from the UK market.
