Raw Foodism: Here's an Incentive

Raw food, or food in its uncooked form, is becoming increasingly acceptable on dining tables everywhere. This is possibly because the negative effects of processed food are in evidence everywhere in the form of lifestyle diseases, childhood obesity, and all-round malaise that has permeated society from babies to senior citizens.

Raw foods diet brings you the enzymes and energy in fresh food direct from nature and delivers it into your body. Your body has no problem absorbing this natural goodness and hungrily laps up the nutrients in the process of digestion. Processed foods, on the other hand, come into your system already, well, processed.

What this means is that your body is fed second-hand material instead of raw material. They just pass in and out while your body remains in starvation mode due to the lack of nutrients and energy. So you eat some more and fill the physical organ known as the stomach.

While a raw foods diet has undoubted advantages over processed foods, it does have a few turn-offs. At least for some folks, raw foodism is associated with unwashed hippies or ugly vegetables at unbelievably high prices. The thought of biting into a celery stick pales in comparison to a cheeseburger dripping with flavour.

It doesn't have to be that way. Raw foods include fruits, nuts, juices, sprouts, salads, smoothies, and shakes all of which may be embellished with toppings, seasonings, dips, and dressings that are only limited by your imagination.

And you most certainly do not have to go all the way from day 1; just increase the amount of raw food in your normal diet imperceptibly until one fine day you find you didn't have any dishes to do. Now if that isn't an incentive to turn to a raw foods diet, I don't know what is.

I've become a firm believer in raw food, and this is coming from someone who ate steak with french fries on a regular basis for two decades prior to discovering raw food. Nothing like curing your stomach ulcer with broccoli and a raw food diet to change your world view.
