No Liquor In My House - Comments Page 2

It's not just liquor; my house does not contain any alcoholic beverages at all. This was a decision by my wife and I from the time we were married. Outside the house I would have maybe one beer and one glass of wine every 12 months or so.

Geez, Talk about a load of common American debate; Talk about the complete lack of completeness when it comes to an objective opinion. This is common Christian Suburbanite thinking in the works here. Which in many studies is found (Click temples "editor's pick" link and find the one about intelligence) that the wholly conservative, religious, better plan for disaster instead of planning for the future view is among the least intelligent and informed group of people on the planet.

My Fiancé’s parents are a great example. They have always had this attitude where the “whole world is out to get them.” Which also follows there opinion on alcohol. As in “my friends are drinking, but I don’t know if I have one what will happen if I want another, and another.” So I better not. This type of thinking follows them there entire life. They are some of the most boring people I have ever met. They will most likely die this way. Probably drowning in there proverbial “chicken soup” for there soul.

    The statement

“Then once you give in to temptation for a couple of beers, well then, it's ON. That kind of thinking is a perfect prescription for foolish binge behavior.”

Is horribly typical of this type of behavior.

Since when did people lose the ability to think and decide for themselves? Maybe I’m in the minority here, but what ever happened to some normal adult self control and intelligence. Personally I have been drinking with an ever increasing group of friends since I was 13 years old. I am now 29. I have never had so much as an incident with the law or with anyone else, and as far as my knowledge goes; neither has anyone else in my group. No Loss of control, no issues with spending so much on booze that we cant pay the bills. (We are middle class by the way. Not in anyway wealthy…no 6 figures here folks) No ones had so much as a vehicle accident, or a DWI. Whether its an all weekend party, or just a couple after work. Everyone has always know when enough’s enough, and when and how to make an informed smart decision based on our experience and knowledge, not on what we saw on a slanted commercial or heard on the news.

Even in the religious frame of mind it’s always twisted for emphasis. Earlier it was stated that there is scripture stating “Do not be drunk with wine.” Now if you research that properly and take it into context (as in actually getting the meaning of the statement as a whole. Not just quoting 6 words and taking them as an absolute) It really means and is properly translated: “Do not be a Drunkard” If that was the case the next theory would be “ok wines bad but vodka’s ok” Doesn’t it make since that perhaps the idea was to say “Don’t be irresponsible and stupid.” Not “Don’t do anything at all because you never know what might happen.”

Perhaps if people spent more time educating themselves without the help of the media; instead of taking this overpreventive “you never know what might get you” stance there would be less of a problem, and more problem solving.

    Just my opinion of course….

As a junior in highschool I can honestly say that not keeping alcohol in the house won't accomplish too much. When teens drink, we get to get drunk, and we drink to get drunk with our friends. So sneaking a beer or a swig from our mothers rum bottle she uses for cooking isn't appealing. Alcohol tastes bad, we don't drink it for the taste.

Worry about more important things. As long as were not driving, why can't we have a few shots?

    GET WASTED!
