I have an addiction. Greek yogurt. It's true. For those of you who've never had the pleasure, let me shine light into the darkness of your existence.
Greek yogurt is thicker than the watery gunk which passes for yogurt in the States. It has this amazing creamy consistency. Sweetened with honey, and with some fruit mixed in, it tastes sinful and decadent and wonderful, and you can't have any because it's all mine.
In fact, you can add anything that you like...fruit, nuts, peanut butter, granola, cereal...all of the above. (Who am I to judge what consenting adults want to do with their yogurt?)
It's healthy and a snack of it (yogurt, honey, fruit) is fewer than 300 calories. It provides an excellent source of protein, calcium, and vitamins. Studies have shown — as the Dairy Association tells us all the time — that people who get 3 servings of dairy calcium weigh on average 12 pounds less than those people who do not get enough.
The best source is Trader Joe's. They stopped selling it for a while and there was a there was a gnashing of teeth and much wailing in the land from me, and all the people I'd hooked on its creamy perfection, but now it's back, Baby!
The brand is called Fage Total.
But it might as well be called:

You have my interest peaked here. I've always loved Greek cuisine, and have been indulging even more lately while following a diet similar to "The Mediterranean Diet".
I'm going to have to seek out some of this yogurt. Thanks!

I totally agree with you Nicolette. I lived in Greece for 4 years and when I returned to the States, no proper yogurt to be found (at least I was not looking in the right places). Greek yogurt is by far the most superior yogurt anywhere. Here in the States, those yogurt companies add gelatin (animal by products, yuck) to "thicken" their yogurts. (Think your eating healthy people, gelatin is made of hair and nails and other by products.) Not Greek yogurt, it is totally pure and natural. Will never go back.
9 - The Greek God
Actually, The Greek Gods doesn't use any Gelatin in our Greek Yogurt. It's as close to authentic as you'll get. We strain the yogurt to deliver the consistency and mouth feel. Thank you.

I've got to say....I've recently tried greek yogurt from Trader Joes and that is by far the best Yogurt I've ever tasted!
I've tried to eat plain yogurt before...because I didn't like all the sugar they add to the yogurts... but that stuff i just way too sour and runny... very gross stuff. But Greek Yogurst...is perfectly balanced in taste and much thicker, This stuff is so good you could even use it as complete subsitute for chream cheese on your bagel in the morning or sour cream in other recipes. I'm hooked.

Just torment me. We don't have Trader Joe's. And I want to eat those figs off the picture. Yummy!

Once taste of Greek Yogurt offered by a co-worker made me fall in love. Had to go hunt it down the very next day! How could any two things (US yogurt and Greek yogurt) be so totally different? This yogurt is amazing and you just have to try it. When I bake I substitute plain yogurt for sour cream and can not wait to try baking with Greek yogurt.

Greek Gods yogurt is so good i finish 2 a day. You have to try the fig made with only fig fruit not a blend of fruits and not to sweet. I'm addicted!! Great stuff.

I don't mean to burst any bubbles about FAGE Total, but I've had both that and Greek Gods and there is no comparison. Greek Gods is superior, by far!

I usually get Fage 0% and the store was out so I tried the Greek God 0% stuff and it was...disgusting! I am not even joking. Eww. No comparison to FAGE!!!

greek gods yogurt is the first greek yogurt that i have ever tried and i will NEVER EVER even dream of switching to another IM HOOKED!!! the ppl at the greek gods are so honest and pure with their product, NOTHING compares to it... i have to have 3 servings a day and its great for keeping hunger under control and its delicous... forget the low fat stuff, its been proven tht full fat greek yogurt is way better for u!!! check out their website

Greek Gods is total trash. Owned by food conglomerate Hain. Thickened with pectin. Not greek yogurt at all - just read the nutritional info: half the protein of any legit brand.
And their astroturfing makes me want to stab someone. The 'ppl' there must be so *dishonest* to try to pass their product off as the real thing. *Don't* check out their website.

I agree with PatrickM. I picked up a container of Greek Gods yogurt without looking at the nutrition label, and was absolutely shocked at the fat:protein ratio once I got it home. It was an enjoyable enough product but the texture, taste, and nutrients don't by any mean compare to true greek yogurt. It kind of reminded me of the whipped yogurt Yoplait makes -- it's thick, but not creamy.
10 grams of fat and 4 of protein in one, 0 grams of fat and 14 of protein in the other. I think I know which I'll go with =p
