Art Briles's reaction to the atmosphere he himself had created in the Baylor football program is as much a rape of the victims as the actual assault was. And we the fans bear as much responsibility as anyone.

The Oklahoma football program made Joe Mixon, who was an 18-year-old incoming freshman at the time, sit out for a season. You know – they redshirted him. That was the punishment the coaches and administrators at OU thought appropriate for a five-star, superbly conditioned, top-tier athlete whose response to a skinny little girl was to punch her so violently that bones in her face shattered.

Army and Navy represent everything good about college football, and that's why their annual post-season game is such a pleasure to watch. But 2016 hasn't been a big year for the good side of NCAA athletics. Let's talk about Baylor.

How do you get to the playoffs without really trying? Lose one regular season game, and then sit at home and watch the conference championship game while resting your legs and preparing for whomever your ultimate opponent is in the playoff semifinals.

The playoff system we have is inadequate and inequitable. Just pull the trigger and expand the CFP so that situations like the 2014 TCU snub and the 2016 Ohio State-Penn State conundrum can be avoided. You don't have to be a fanatic to see that the current system isn't working.

Ready for another crazy weekend of college football? We certainly are. With our picks record sitting at 35-15, we're pleased with the chaos we've managed to get right. The real wackiness begins next weekend. Between the rivalry games and conference championships, we are tentatively expecting over half of the current top ten to fall.

No, you can't blame our picks on pain meds. Last time we checked, caprice wasn't a viable diagnosis. All we know is this: in a season where nothing makes sense, after a while the only thing that does is chaos.

We're hoping for a fun weekend of great college football – hopefully without serious injuries. And while we'd like to think that CFB officials would get their act together and finally learn how to call a game with equality for all teams and players, we somehow don't think that's likely to happen. Still, we're looking forward to the end of the season.
