This is a tremendous victory for the parents and teachers of the state who became “the force” for good against the dark side of standardized testing and Common Core.

This very surprising turn of events indicates that Cuomo is yielding to the pressure of angry parents and exasperated teachers who have been crying foul regarding the standards since their implementation in 2010.

It is not enough for our children to become academically adept anymore – they need to know how to get through school and move on to a life where they can be successful and happy adults.

Parents and teachers are forging an alliance to take back education, which in essence means eliminating most or all of these standardized tests in favor of something really radical – a day devoted to actual teaching!

It is up to educators to brighten up their spaces and make them relevant to the subject matter they teach with the goal being to highlight student achievement and maximize their learning potential.

With Flexible Instruction Days if bad weather closes a school, kids won’t be lounging around the house all day watching TV or listening to their iPods, and schools will not be losing instructional days that disrupt school calendars and everyone’s personal lives.

STEAM students will not just think outside of the box, they will design and build a new one.

The problem with standardized testing and state assessments has been glaringly obvious for years – they test students as if they are all the same student.

The “rebel alliance” of teachers, principals, and parents have dared to challenge the empire's Common Core State Standards policy. May the force be with them.

We need to get back to teachers teaching instead of teaching to the test. This report is a sign that we are getting there.
