Have you heard about cinemagraphs? They are the things that look like photos – until they begin to move.

From September 1-3, the force will be at over 20,000 retailers in 30 countries as the Disney Company introduces new 'Star Wars' characters using augmented reality (AR). Disney will use this technology in an event they are calling Force Friday II to launch a new product line and generate excitement for the premier of 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' which will open in U.S. theaters on December 15, 2017.

The question that dominated many of the VR/AR seminars at SXSW was “How do you tell a story using this new technology?” "New" because the hardware has become affordable for consumers, and game engines used to create VR have become more powerful. The market is attracting a range of companies, from startups to ancient tech giants like IBM and Microsoft.

More sophisticated augmented reality applications can scan your environment, for example, a living room, and place virtual objects on walls and flat surfaces. The user can interact with these virtual objects to play games, or solve puzzles or mysteries.
