Alexander Wang drew an amazing crowd to a huge space and it was a packed event. This "spotlight" designer is a bellwether for the fashion world when it comes to creating a new look. Dynamic as his designs are, Wang himself seems very much about being open to new creative ideas and not recycling trends. Alexander Wang has done what the best designers do — design.
There are many interesting things about this collection. Yes, it is a banker's buttoned up style, yet the body conscious fit and exposure of the body with true cut-away vests and tops makes it less "Wall Street" and more sexy, thus not making it a workday wardrobe. His love for and use of velvet, particularly with Swarovski pearls, is amazing. The luxurious velvet is further enhanced by these pearls and other Swarovski details. I particularly liked the ruby colored leggings as opposed to the thigh-high boots which seemed hardcore in their presentation. However there were definitely pieces in that collection that I thought were stunning, particularly a lacy-topped slip dress that would be amazing for holiday.
Wang was good about balancing his color scheme. While black is the "new black," he offered ruby and jewel tones that make the collection seem very suitable for fall and into holiday.
Want to know what I want for some special day? Alexander Wang — along with a few pieces of some of these other designers. It would be fashion heaven!
