Two New York officials decided to go against political correctness everywhere by criticizing NYC’s random search policy in the subways. NYC has been performing random searches on people entering the subways to make sure that they are not terrorists, or have bombs, while paying extra special attention to anyone who is sweating. Anyone with a brain can see how foolish this is, and Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn), and City Councilman James Oddo (R-Staten Island) are two such people. They have stated over the weekend that NYC is wasting its time searching random people, and should instead focus on searching Arabs.
Hikind stated that: “It’s all very nice to be politically correct here, but we’re talking about terrorism.” He also said “There is a terrorist profile for a potential suicide bomber, and it’s not the 75-year-old grandmother . . . who has an oversized tote bag firmly tucked under her arm.” While I don’t think that political correctness is nice at all, at least he is on the right track. Oddo supports Hikind for going against political correctness, and said that: “”Young Arab fundamentalists are the individuals undertaking these acts of terror, and we should keep those facts prominently in our minds and eyes as we attempt to secure our populace.”
Mayor Bloomberg, apparently more concerned about looking good than public safety said that what they wanted was illegal. He also said it was not “fair.” Ha! Not fair is searching people because they are sweating in 90 degree weather. Not fair is searching old ladies because you are trying to be fair. Actually, the latter is just plain stupid.
Imagine some old lady being searched while the real terrorist walks by unsearched, and blows up a train. Why would he get by? Searching him would be “racial profiling.” I would not be surprised to see them getting away with boarding a train while holding a bomb in their hands. The police won’t stop him. It may be racial profiling!
Oddo and Hikind need to be supported in their push against stupidity.
