Bru Velvet trains a critical eye on the institution of UCLA sports and seeks to document its role in the cultural life of Los Angeles. The author admits to being emotionally invested in Bruin athletics to an unbecoming degree. He once lent a pencil to Ed O’Bannon for use in a biology final, and he instinctively dislikes Princeton grads for their loose association with the events of March 1996. Themes he intends to probe in Bru Velvet include the extent to which one can sanely regard USC sports as a many-tentacled criminal enterprise.
It will be his pleasure to convince you that real men and women wear powder blue.
