Who Deserves to Be On the Cover of Madden '10?

Last year, Brett Favre was the cover of the popular Madden video game, where fans can be their favorite football team and beat different rivals on various game consoles. The producers of Madden NFL 2010 have released a list of possible candidates. There are four nominees so far. Five more are expected to be released. The nominees include: Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Ravens free safety Ed Reed, Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, and Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.

Big Ben Roethlisberger is obviously a great choice. He's won two Super Bowl rings and has the reputation as the "comeback kid" for winning at the end of the game (See Super Bowl XLIII). He's definitely in the elite class of quarterbacks. He had an amazing post season. Ben Roethlisberger threw one interception in the playoffs in 89 attempts. (And that one mistake was in the Super Bowl and was tipped. Clearly not his fault.)

Safety Ed Reed of the Ravens had a monster season. His team almost went to the Super Bowl. (And I bet they would have beaten the Cardinals). He's been to five Pro Bowls and elected on four All-Pro teams. Reed was the only player unanimously voted onto the All-Pro team last year. He had nine interceptions last year. He kills me when he plays the Steelers, but he's a darn good player.

New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs is also up for the honor. He ran for over 1,000 yards last year with 219 attempts. He definitely helped the Giants progress in the post season.

Although, can you really compare Brandon Jacobs' season to Adrian Peterson? In the 2008 NFL Pro Bowl, the Vikings running back rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns, which is the second highest rushing total in Pro Bowl history. In addition, Peterson is the fifth player in NFL history to have 3,000-plus yards through his first two seasons.

I expect Fitzgerald to get a nomination. Eli Manning will probably get one also. I expect another Steelers will get in the pool (Either Troy Polamalu, Santonio Holmes or James Harrison). I'm actually surprised the producers picked Ben out of all the Steelers. Maybe one of the Dallas Cowboys will get nominated after how many Pro Bowlers they got. (Of course, that could be because Dallas is "America's Team.")

I can't really predict who will get the honor of being on the cover. I'd end up picking a Steeler, because I can't really be objective in this kind of situation. It's all speculation anyway. It could be anyone.
