Cory H.: How much of what he earns comes from that contract?

Tuffy: About $20-25m per annum, I believe.

Nicolas L: I don't think Alex wants to freeze his butt off up there.

Cory H.: And, again, another argument to be made: What team doesn't turn into a contender with A-Rod? If anyone asks about a ring, he can say that he lifts the team to a new level.

Nicolas L: The Pirates. Giants, Astros, and Nationals.

Tuffy: The Mets.

Nicolas L: Did you just say A-Rod wouldn't make the Mets a contender?

Tuffy:    I did. They are a contender. They have young, cheap, and brilliant players in his best positions. If anything, buying Rodriguez would cripple the Mets' free agent acquisition budget. Buy them a first baseman, please.

Cory H.: Make A-Rod a first baseman, make Wright a first baseman

Tuffy:    Why would you lower their values dramatically by doing that? A first baseman at, say, 90% of Alex's offensive value could be had for 50% of his price. If you're going to move anyone to first, get Lastings Milledge a bigger glove.

Cory H.: That's saying a team is interested in economics. A starting pitcher at, say, 90% of Tony Armas' value could be had for 10% of his price. Teams don't always act rationally

Tuffy: Okay, fair enough, but the Mets also haven't shown a lick of interest in Rodriguez.

Cory H.: Nor should they.

Nicolas L: Alright guys, we're approaching the end of our time, bring this baby home.

Tuffy: Terry Ryan...Terry, listen to me! Make an offer. Make it $35m for four years. Short contract length, bigger money - that's how the Angels stole Cabrera from the Cubs - and you can have a World Series champion in 2009.

Cory H.: Way to ruin A-Rod: Make him play 81 games a year on turf!

Tuffy: What do they care if he's ruined? He's only there for four years.

Nicolas L: Besides, the new non-turf staduim will be open soon.

Cory H.: I'm not sure Bud would let his stud sign for Minnesota

Tuffy: Yet another complication. Maybe if Yi can sign with the Knicks... ? Make it work, Bud and David!

Nicolas L: Alright, we'll lead off with Chairman Yi next week, but for this week, that's a chat wrap. Many thanks.
