Thoughts on Iraqi Athletes Participating in the Olympics - Page 2

So, here I am, 12:30 at night, TV blaring on some TV show. It’s so late that I could barely pay attention to it. But then I googled Iraq and the Olympics. I’m still thinking about it, even though I’ve swore all my life that I would have nothing to do with any sport besides football and maybe hockey if there’s lots of physical contact. But I couldn’t forget about this.

I typed it in, expecting to be disgusted with the results, but then I found out that Iraqi athletes are allowed to participate now. I became ecstatic and was wide awake, as if I drank three Dr. Pepper’s in seven minutes.

This is the way it’s supposed to go. Everyone should be allowed to participate in the games. It’s only fair. And you want to know something? I think I’ll watch the Olympics for the first time in my life. And I’ll be rooting for the Iraqis.

Thank you so much. I think I speak on behalf of all Iraqis when I say I'm touched by your empathy with us.

The roar our 7 athletes received at the opening ceremony was amazing too. Hopefully they'll bring back a medal or two.

Hassan, I watched the opening ceremony and the ovation was indeed very cool. I'm proud of all of your athletes and I wish your fellow Iraqis the very best at the Games.

It's insane that the IOC played bureucracy with them to begin with.
