The Knicks Are A Disgrace, Media Week Is Boring And The NFL Players Might Strike

Before we get flooded with the countless hours of post-Super Bowl analysis I want to throw out some more ramblings based on the last week in sports.

The New York Knicks Are A Disgrace To Pro Sports. The Knicks – one of the most storied franchises in all of pro sports – have become an embarrassment both on and off the court. The only plan it seems the Knicks have involves how to sexually harass women and then fire them in an attempt to cover up their misdeeds. With regards to personnel the team has made one bad move after another. Start with the hiring of Isiah Thomas to run the team and right on up through this week’s acquisition of career malcontent Jalen Rose and you have an example of one of the worst run franchises in all of pro sports. Can the Dolan’s be impeached or recalled?

I Hate The Pre-Super Bowl Media Week. The extra week that we have to wait for the Super Bowl wouldn’t be as bad if we didn’t have to put up with the totally contrived “media week” and all of the nonsense that it entails. Casual sports fans aren’t paying attention. Real fans don’t care for the minutia. And anyone who claims to be a fan and finds as interesting the garbage that comes out this week needs to be institutionalized.

Nomar Pulls Out of World Baseball Classic. A frustrated World Baseball Classic couldn’t be reached for comment…but seriously. When you can’t get a has-been like Nomar Garciaparra to play in the WBC, what does that say about the “luster” of the event?

NFL Labor Strife Looms On The Horizon. The usual participants in sports-related labor negotiations – commissioner, player’s union head - have weighed in on the current state of pro football’s labor contract and things don’t look too good. Player’s union head, Gene Upshaw is thinking about decertifying the union and the NFL Commish Pauly T hasn’t sounded too upbeat about the whole process. 1) It’s silly to have such “labor” problems with guys who make many hundreds of thousands of dollars per year and B) To refer to such issues as “labor problems” in the same manner of coal workers and auto workers is inaccurate.

Another Athlete/Hood Gets Arrested. Chris Henry, a soon-to-be former wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals got arrested for the second time in two months. Henry, who in December was arrested on drug charges graduated to the more serious crime of menacing a group of people with a gun, which turned out to be stolen. When faced down by police officers this idiot walked away to ditch the gun in a limo and a loaded magazine in the street, and had to be wrestled to the ground by the officers. Bengals Head Coach Marvin Lewis has said all the right things in response to this incident and hopefully will dump this “nogoodnik” from the team.

Sal, I never thought I'd give up on the Knicks, but this year I'm pretty damn close to just not watching anymore.
