The College World Series in Omaha Nebraska

Part of: Baseball Cabal

Upsets rule the 2010 College World Series. The top two teams, Arizona State and Florida, have already been eliminated, while unranked Clemson remains unbeaten.

UCLA stands in good shape as the other unbeaten team. The Bruins brought their bats and their pitching to the tournament. They defeated fourth ranked Gators 11 to 3, and then knocked off TCU. They await the winner of the game between Florida State University and TCU.

The Seminoles questionable pitching staff got pounded by the TCU bats and lost the first game 8 to 1. TCU had some jitters in the first inning, accounting for Florida States' only run. Matt Purke for TCU looked great with seven strikeouts in seven innings and allowing only four hits. The Seminoles used six pitchers in the game. TCU did most of their damage against the Seminoles' starting pitcher, Sean Gilmartin. His record of 9 and 7 made him an interesting selection for an opening game of the College World Series.

In the Seminoles' second game, they sent the lack luster Gators home. The Gators tried to rally late but came up a little short losing 8-5. Florida State owned the Gators this season, beating them four out of five meetings. The Seminoles indicate they will start John Gast in their next game against TCU.

This is the first College World Series for the TCU Horned Frogs. They had a great first game against the Seminoles and lost to a tenacious UCLA team. To get to the final round, they have to beat the Seminoles and then defeat the Bruins twice. The difficult decision for TCU will be when to pitch Matt Purke again.

The unranked Clemson Tigers knocked off the top seed Arizona State 6-3. The Sun Devils had their ace on the mound, Seth Blair. He was 12-0 coming into the game, but he had trouble finding the strike zone. He walked four out of twelve batters giving the Tigers a 3 -1 lead that State could not overcome.
