Terrell Owens With the Dallas Cowboys: This Will Work

Terrell Owens is heading to Dallas to work with Bill Parcells and the Cowboys. The first thing that came to my mind when I read the news was Bill Parcells and Keyshawn Johnson’s relationship in New York and Dallas. I thought hey, Keyshawn and Bill worked well together, so Bill and Terrell won’t have any problems. I truly believe that Terrell is a terrific pick up by Bill Parcells and the Dallas Cowboys — this belief is coming from a New York Jets fan who wouldn’t touch Terrell Owens with a 10-foot pole.

Terrell Owens is the type of cancer that only comes out when the football team is losing, a la Keyshawn Johnson. These two guys simply want to win, that is it. If Terrell Owens wasn’t the kind of guy who only cared about the ring, I am pretty sure he would have sat out the Super Bowl. Owens could have easily caused more damage to himself by playing in that game, playing with an injury is the easiest way to get hurt. If Owens did somehow get re-injured, he would have never been in the position to bargain for another contract, or seek out a new deal from a new team.

Many say Terrell is the kind of guy who has had good quarterbacks and should have never complained about his situation. I don’t think Terrell has every truly played with a great PASSER. Yes, Donovan McNabb is a great quarterback, but his actual passing ability is overrated. McNabb has the tendency to put the ball too low, a no-no when dealing with such a large receiver such as Terrell Owens. Jeff Garcia? Please. He was a product of the system, and could never get Terrell the ball at the right time.

In the end, the contract is going to be incentive-heavy, and behavior-based. If Terrell Owens becomes a problem (hard to believe with Parcells in town) he won’t cost the Cowboys all that much. They didn’t give up any players or draft picks to obtain him, and when you take those factors into account, Terrell Owens is a phenomenal risk for the Dallas Cowboys.

Let me know in the comments section if you believe Terrell Owens was the right move for the Dallas Cowboys. Also leave your thoughts on how we will perform this season for those fantasy football lovers.

Well, the conventional wisdom is that Owens will quickly destroy the harmonious cohesion of ANY locker room he is allowed to enter, and that therefore he is a net-negative for ANY team, despite his many great athletic talents.

And, in this case, I tend to agree with the conventional wisdom...

Parcells isn't the coach he used to be, either. So that has to factor into the anti-cohesion somehow.

As a young cowboys fan back in the 70s, I whole-heartedly believe that TO is an asset to the Cowboys Franchise! Look at his stats, what he has achieved.. and what he can do for the team. Yes, the STAR episode was breaking.. however, Parcells is still the man. He is capable of handling tough players. Reference, Johnson's last interception against the Panthers to end the win. This is a great move. Cowboys have the players... lets put it together! See you in Feb 07!

I don't see how this could work.. not even remotely ....

It is indeed quite a gamble.. hopefully cowboys will cut him loose at the slightest hint of his antics.

If T.O. could just be judged on his skill, then we could say that the Cowboys have scored big. However, T.O.'s me-me-me personality and immature rants when things aren't going his way point to the Cowboys having made a HUGE mistake. My guess is he'll look and act good for most of this season and then the dissention will start to rear its ugly head toward the end of season one or at the beginning of two. He's a ticking time bomb. Just ask Steve Mariucci. And Jeff Garcia. They thought T.O. would be an asset in S.F. Just ask Donovan McNabb. And Andy Reid. They thought they could keep him in check in Philly. Not. Tick. Tick. Tick.

As a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, I was disheartened and outraged at the dissension that Terrell Owens caused for the Eagles in Owens' second year as wide receiver. Because of his immense ego, coupled by his insults, his temper tantrums, and his demands, I don't see how TO's selection by the Cowboys will serve them in the long term. Owens is a serious disruptive factor for any team on which he is a player. Yes, he is immensely talented; but along with that immense talent is an even larger ego. Unfortunately, TO has never learned to be a team player. Additionally, TO has a checkered history with injuries; so it will be interesting to see how he fares in another NFL jersey. At training camp he complained of a "sore" hamstring that kept him from playing in Dallas's first two preseason games. I can't help but think he "stages" events so he can make a grand entrance. Don't forget that while in Philadelphia, he held a press conference on his lawn showing to the media that he was in great physical shape, while simultaneously missing practice sessions. He deliberately "stages" events to suit his purpose. Should be an interesting year for sure!
