South Carolina at Arkansas
Eddie McCoy of the Auburn Football Insider Website & Podcast pointed out to me that South Carolina has a tendency to meltdown the latter half of the season. Looking at the last three seasons for the Gamecocks as proof:
- 2008: start 5-2, finish 7-6
- 2007: start 6-1, finish 6-6
- 2006: start 5-2, finish 8-5.
This season, SC started 6-1 and is currently 1-2 in the last three weeks and the one win was a struggle against perennial doormat Vanderbilt. The defense is decent, but the offense has completely gone to sleep since the first of the year. Arkansas at 4-4 is no world beater, but they have figured out enough defense to be dangerous and their offense is rarely held in check. The Hogs pull the minor upset this week at home. Arkansas 27, South Carolina 17.
Vanderbilt at Florida
Vanderbilt will need more than a one half suspension of Florida LB Brandon Spikes to be able to keep this one remotely respectable. Wonder how many times Vandy fans will break out the “that’s alright, that’s okay, you’ll all work for us someday” chant during the game? Probably less than the number of times Tim Tebow scores. Florida 33, Vanderbilt 10.
Out of conference schedule – smells like homecoming.
Tennessee Tech at Georgia
The Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech (5-3) actually have a better record than Georgia (4-4) going into this game. The Bulldogs should be able to win this one as Tech hasn’t faired well against FBS competition so far. Things are getting hot for Mark Richt down there. If Georgia plays flat though, look for the temperature gauges to go to critical level. Georgia 24, Tennessee Tech 13.
Eastern Kentucky at Kentucky
Eastern Kentucky (5-3) has a better record than Kentucky (4-4) but they have only played one FBS team – Indiana and that’s not saying much. Kentucky has lost some close games and has won a couple as well. In spite of being rather beat up, Kentucky has the playmakers to get this one. Kentucky 24, Eastern Kentucky 16.
