SEC Week Seven Previews and Picks

Part of: SEC Weekly Preview

Georgia at Vanderbilt
The wheels are coming off the Bulldogs truck as they limp into this matchup with the Commodores. At 3-3 and 2-4 respectively (with conference records of 1-2), both teams need a win to keep any hopes of decent bowl games alive. Georgia’s wins were all close and the losses have come off of major breakdowns at parts of the game. Vandy is still what they usually are – a fly in the ointment, but they struggle most on offense. This one may come down to field goal kickers matching wits. Georgia 19, Vanderbilt 6. This game is televised on the SEC Network (check local listings) at 12:21 p.m. ET.

Mississippi State at Middle TN State
MSU has a long way to go, but they have made great strides under first year coach Dan Mullen. MTSU beat ACC foe Maryland earlier and was off to a good start in the Sun Belt before getting worked by a mediocre Troy squad last week. The last time these two met it was a bit of a shootout and I expect the same this Saturday with the Bulldogs coming out on top. MSU 33, MTSU 21. This game is televised on ESPNU at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Arkansas at Florida
Florida’s offense isn’t nearly as explosive as it was last year. However, the defense (particularly the pressure and speed) is top notch and will give Ryan Mallett and the high-scoring Razorbacks problems all day. Some think this is a trap game for Florida, but I don’t see it that way. Florida rolls here. Florida 37, Arkansas 7. This game is televised on CBS at 3:30 p.m. ET.

South Carolina at Alabama
If there is a trap game on Alabama’s schedule, this is it. South Carolina could easily be undefeated heading into this showdown if it weren’t for a close loss to Georgia. They have survived on a healthy dose of defense this year and just enough offense. Alabama’s passing offense has been up and down at times, but they run the ball with authority. Defensively there may not be a better front seven in the league or the country than what the Crimson Tide puts on the field each week. This game will be close early, but Alabama has too much for the Gamecocks. Alabama 31, South Carolina 10. This game is televised on ESPN at 7:00 p.m. ET.

    Go MSU Dawgs!

Go Ole Miss - as long as they aren't playing the Dawgs!

Go LSU/Bama/GT/Razorbacks - as long as they're not playing the Dawgs or Ole Miss!

And SOMEbody needs to kick the Florida teams out of the SEC - because Florida's NOT part of the South. Florida's just the Great Northern Retirement Home!

    So there!
