Elsewhere 2nd placed Valencia beat 5th in the table Atletico Madrid 3-1. Sevilla managed to throw away a 1-0 lead at home to bottom club Osasuna who equalised in injury time.

Barcelona are top on 44, Valencia 2nd on 33, Real Madrid climb to 3rd on 32, Sevilla slip to 4th on 32, and Atletico Madrid are 5th on 30.

Greece
Top placed team Olympiakos of Athens won 1-0 at Asteras Tripoli and stay six points ahead of PAOK Salonika who beat Ofi Crete 2-0. In the latest Athens derby Panathinaikos and AEK played out a tense 0-0 draw.

England
It was FA Cup 3rd round weekend. The major shock was provided by little Hartlepool who knocked out Premiership Stoke City 2-0. Manchester City proved that money can't buy you everything by being unceremoniously dumped out by the once mighty, now far more modest, Nottingham Forest at home 0-3.

Chelsea were held 1-1 at home by Southend United. Non-league Forest Green Rovers led Derby County 2-0 at one stage before finally running out of steam and losing 3-4 in a thrilling match.

The draw for the 4th round has paired Liverpool at home to Merseyside neighbours Everton, whilst Manchester United will be at home to Spurs.

So as the major European leagues slowly emerge from the big sleep of winter Euroscore will continue to bring you the Monday round up.

Thought For The Weekend:- Was it Scottish legandary hero Robert the Bruce who sat in a cave watching a determined spider build and re-build his web before coining the phrase, 'if at first you don't succeed, try, try, and try again?' Well, spare a thought if you will for both Villareal's full backs who tried desperately to catch flying Dutchman Arjen Robben only to end up embarrassed time and again.

However much they tried they couldn't get close enough to trip him up or even pull his shirt. Next time they meet they might do well to tackle him in the tunnel on the way out as it is the closest they will get to him for the next ninety minutes. Their lasting image of this encounter must be the back of Robben's white shirt disappearing on another run down the wing.

Next up on Euroscore:- Malta Part 2. Our Past Legends series is off to Budapest to remember Florian Albert.

Enjoy your football.
