RJ's NFL Picks - Week Two - Page 4

Part of: NFL Picks

RJ's Pick: Tampa Bay by 3

4:15 p.m. - Miami Dolphins (0-1) @ Arizona Cardinals (1-0) [Line: Arizona by 6.5]

Miami lost to the Jets in Week One. RB Ricky Williams ran for just 24 yards on 10 carries, and fumbled twice. (Maybe if Bill Parcells can convince the NFL to let the Dolphins glue a picture of a bong onto the football, Williams will hold on a little tighter?) The Cardinals beat San Francisco last week. RB Edgerrin James rushed for 100 yards on 26 carries.

RJ's Pick: Arizona by 13

4:15 p.m. - San Diego Chargers (0-1) @ Denver Broncos (1-0) [Line: San Diego by 2]

San Diego lost last week at home to Carolina. (Let the "Fire Norv Turner!" chants begin.) RB LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 97 yards on 21 carries. QB Philip Rivers was 17-for-27 passing for 217 yards, 3 TDs, and no INTs. But they still managed to lose, on a last-second TD pass, to a Panthers team without star WR Steve Smith. Ouch. Denver ripped Oakland to shreds on MNF, winning 41-14. WR Eddie Royal caught nine passes for 146 yards and a score.

RJ's Pick: Denver by 1

4:15 p.m. - Baltimore Ravens (1-0) @ Houston Texans (0-1) [Line: Houston by 5]

Baltimore beat the Bengals last week, 17-10. Rookie QB Joe Flacco was just 15-for-29 with 129 yards and no TDs through the air, but he did run for a score. Houston lost to the Steelers last Sunday, 38-17. QB Matt Schaub threw two picks, was sacked five times, and lost a fumble. (Let the "Unleash Sage Rosenfels!" chants begin...or not.)

RJ's Pick: Houston by 2

4:15 p.m. - New England Patriots (1-0) @ New York Jets (1-0) [Line: New York Jets by 2]

New England beat the Chiefs last week, but lost QB Tom Brady for the season. Now all the hopes and dreams of Patriot Nation rest on the shoulders of his backup, Matt Cassel, who has never before started a single NFL game. What could possibly go wrong? The Jets beat the Dolphins last Sunday. RB Thomas Jones rushed for 101 yards and a TD on 22 carries. But the real story was QB Brett Favre's debut with his new team. Favre completed 15 passes on 22 attempts for 194 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions. He did, however, get sacked three times and fumble twice. I predict an enraged (and possibly insane) Bill Belichick puts a bounty on Favre's left knee. Will Mike Vrabel or Tedy Bruschi collect? Not sure. And that's why they play the games...

    I'll be 11-5 going into week 2.

    My predictions are...

    1. The Pack wins over the Lions
    2. The Cheifs take out Oakland
    3. Gaints easily beat the Rams
    4. The Vikings will redeem themselves and Colts will start out 0-2
    5. Titans squeek one out against the Bengals
    6. The Redskins beat the highly over rated Saints (the Gaints scored points in the air but beat them on the run, where NO is weaker IMO)
    7. Carolina wins over the Bears at home
    8. The Jags kill off Bills fans hope for the season
    9. Seattle crushes the 49er's
    10. The Falcons upset the Bucs at home.
    11. The Jets are finally able to win two games in a row.
    12. The Cards beat out the Fins
    13. Denver will be the second underdog team to upset the Bolts
    14. Steelers dominate the Browns
    15. Dallas wins at home
    16. The Texans also win one at home

    Note:

The Baltimore Ravens @ Houston Texans game was canceled, and rescheduled for November 9th, due to Hurricane Ike. Reliant Stadium was apparently severely damaged in the storm. So, this will count as the "bye week" for both the Ravens and the Texans.
