RJ's NFL Picks - Week Two - Page 3

Part of: NFL Picks

RJ's Pick: New York Giants by 21

1:00 p.m. - New Orleans Saints (1-0) @ Washington Redskins (0-1) [Line: New Orleans by 1]

New Orleans beat division rival Tampa Bay 24-20 last Sunday. QB Drew Brees threw for 343 yards and 3 TDs while completing 23 of 32 passes. RB Reggie Bush rushed for 51 yards, and caught eight passes for 112 more and a TD. (Yanno, if I played fantasy football, I would want those two on my team...) The Redskins lost to the Giants in Week One. RB Clinton Portis was held to just 3.7 yards per carry.

RJ's Pick: New Orleans by 9

4:05 p.m. - San Francisco 49ers (0-1) @ Seattle Seahawks (0-1) [Line: Seattle by 7.5]

The 49ers lost at home to the Cardinals last week. RB Frank Gore had a good game, rushing for 96 yards and a TD on just 14 carries, and also making 4 receptions for 55 yards. That was about it for the 49ers offense, though. They turned the ball over five times, including two fumbles and an INT by QB JT O'Sullivan. O'Sullivan was also sacked four times. (As you may have already guessed, he is a former Detroit Lion.) The Seahawks got rocked by the Bills last Sunday. QB Matt Hasselbeck was just 17-for-41 passing, with one TD and one INT, and got sacked five times. Hey, the NFC Worst might actually be up for grabs this year! Could we have a 6-10 division winner?

RJ's Pick: Seattle by 4

4:05 p.m. - Atlanta Falcons (1-0) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1) [Line: Tampa Bay by 8]

Atlanta humiliated Detroit last week, 34-21. RB Michael Turner rushed for 220 yards on 22 carries, with 2 TDs. If you do the math, that's ten yards per carry. I don't think he'll be able to keep that average up there in the double-digits, though, unless there's a sudden scheduling change and he ends up facing the Lions defense fifteen more times this season. Tampa Bay lost to the Saints last Sunday. RB Earnest Graham had a nice performance in a losing effort, rushing for 91 yards on ten carries, and also catching three passes for 27 more. Expect a lot of yards on the ground (for both teams) in this one.

    I'll be 11-5 going into week 2.

    My predictions are...

    1. The Pack wins over the Lions
    2. The Cheifs take out Oakland
    3. Gaints easily beat the Rams
    4. The Vikings will redeem themselves and Colts will start out 0-2
    5. Titans squeek one out against the Bengals
    6. The Redskins beat the highly over rated Saints (the Gaints scored points in the air but beat them on the run, where NO is weaker IMO)
    7. Carolina wins over the Bears at home
    8. The Jags kill off Bills fans hope for the season
    9. Seattle crushes the 49er's
    10. The Falcons upset the Bucs at home.
    11. The Jets are finally able to win two games in a row.
    12. The Cards beat out the Fins
    13. Denver will be the second underdog team to upset the Bolts
    14. Steelers dominate the Browns
    15. Dallas wins at home
    16. The Texans also win one at home

    Note:

The Baltimore Ravens @ Houston Texans game was canceled, and rescheduled for November 9th, due to Hurricane Ike. Reliant Stadium was apparently severely damaged in the storm. So, this will count as the "bye week" for both the Ravens and the Texans.
