RJ's NFL Picks - Week Two

Part of: NFL Picks

I went 9-7 last week. For a comparison, check out the "experts" over at ESPN.

Here are my picks for the NFL's Week 2:

*Sunday September 14, 2008*

1:00 p.m. - Chicago Bears (1-0) @ Carolina Panthers (1-0) [Line: Carolina by 3]
Chicago shocked just about everyone (especially me) last week by beating the Colts in Indy. Rookie RB Matt Forte rushed for 123 yards and a TD in the win. Carolina also won as an underdog on the road in Week One, beating the Chargers 26-24. So it's possible that both these teams are better than most people thought. Or maybe it was just a fluke. In any event, one of these teams is still going to be unbeaten going into next week.

RJ's Pick: Carolina by 1

1:00 p.m. - Tennessee Titans (1-0) @ Cincinnati Bengals (0-1) [Line: Cincinnati by 1.5]

Tennessee beat Jacksonville last week, despite a typically sub-par performance from QB Vince Young (12-for-22 passing for just 110 yards, with 1 TD and 2 INTs). Cincinnati lost to Baltimore last Sunday due in part to an atypically awful performance by QB Carson Palmer (10-for-25 passing for just 99 yards, with 0 TDs and 1 INT). It deserves mention, however, that Palmer's numbers have declined every year since his first full season in 2005. This could be an ugly year for football fans in southern Ohio.

RJ's Pick: Tennessee by 4

1:00 p.m. - Green Bay Packers (1-0) @ Detroit Lions (0-1) [Line: Green Bay by 3]

The Packers beat the Vikings last week, 24-19. QB Brett Favre Aaron Rodgers was terrific, going 18-for-22 passing with 1 TD and 0 INTs (and he ran for a touchdown as well). Detroit got crushed by the Falcons in Week One, 34-21. QB Jon Kitna was sacked three times, and the Lions defense got burned for 318 yards on the ground. The 34 points allowed were more than Detroit had given up in all four preseason games combined. It could be an[other] ugly season for football fans in southern Michigan, as well. But, as a thoroughly demented Lions fan (is there any other kind?), I still feel compelled to pick them.

RJ's Pick: Detroit by 2

    I'll be 11-5 going into week 2.

    My predictions are...

    1. The Pack wins over the Lions
    2. The Cheifs take out Oakland
    3. Gaints easily beat the Rams
    4. The Vikings will redeem themselves and Colts will start out 0-2
    5. Titans squeek one out against the Bengals
    6. The Redskins beat the highly over rated Saints (the Gaints scored points in the air but beat them on the run, where NO is weaker IMO)
    7. Carolina wins over the Bears at home
    8. The Jags kill off Bills fans hope for the season
    9. Seattle crushes the 49er's
    10. The Falcons upset the Bucs at home.
    11. The Jets are finally able to win two games in a row.
    12. The Cards beat out the Fins
    13. Denver will be the second underdog team to upset the Bolts
    14. Steelers dominate the Browns
    15. Dallas wins at home
    16. The Texans also win one at home

    Note:

The Baltimore Ravens @ Houston Texans game was canceled, and rescheduled for November 9th, due to Hurricane Ike. Reliant Stadium was apparently severely damaged in the storm. So, this will count as the "bye week" for both the Ravens and the Texans.
