RJ's NFL Picks, Week Three - Page 2

Part of: NFL Picks

RJ's Pick: Tampa Bay by 2

San Francisco (2-0) at Pittsburgh (2-0) - 1:00 PM (Sheridan's Line - Steelers by 8½)

The Steelers are 2-0 because they are a very good team. The 49ers are 2-0 because they've been lucky to barely beat weak opponents. I expect a bloodbath at Heinz Field.

RJ's Pick: Steelers by 18

Indianapolis (2-0) at Houston (2-0) - 1:00 PM (Sheridan's Line - Colts by 6)

The Colts struggled a bit last week against Tennessee, but they still got the win. QB Peyton Manning is averaging exactly 300 passing yards per game, and RB Joseph Addai is averaging 99.5 rushing yards per game. Texans QB Matt Schaub has been a very pleasant surprise, with a quarterback rating of 111.4. This should be a high-scoring matchup, and an upset isn't out of the question, especially with Houston playing at home. However, I'll go with the Colts.

RJ's Pick: Indianapolis by 4

San Diego (1-1) at Green Bay (2-0) - 1:00 PM (Sheridan's Line - San Diego by 4½)

I just don't know about San Diego this year. They didn't play very well against the Bears in Week One, although they got the win. Then they were humiliated by New England in Week Two (on SNF to boot). QB Philip Rivers did not look impressive in either game, and RB LaDainian Tomlinson has a total of just 68 rushing yards. Of course, you could say that both games were against good defensive teams, but that's also true this week against Green Bay. The Packers have allowed just 26 points through two games. And while they don't have much of a running game, QB Brett Favre is playing like he's ten years younger. I still think the Chargers will make the playoffs, but I do believe they'll slip below .500 this week.

RJ's Pick: Green Bay by 3

Minnesota (1-1) at Kansas City (0-2) - 1:00 PM (Sheridan's Line - Kansas City by 2½)

I truly do not understand the line on this one. Sure, Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson is pretty much the laughingstock of the league, but he's "injured" and so either Kelly Holcomb or Brooks Bollinger will start in his place (and either one would be an improvement). And sure, the Chiefs are at home, but the "Arrowhead advantage" ain't what it used to be. The fact of the matter is, the Vikings have a decent running game and a solid defense. What do the Chiefs have? QB Damon Huard and his 66.5 quarterback rating? RB Larry Johnson and his 3.8 yards per carry and zero TDs? TE Tony Gonzalez and his 71 receiving yards? The coaching wizardry of Herm Edwards and his career 50-54 record as a head coach? I'm not saying the Vikings are guaranteed to win this game or anything, but it certainly seems like the most likely outcome to me.

    Calling all pickers!

You have 48 hours to make your picks...

Detroit (2-0) at Philadelphia (0-2)... If Philadelphia loses this game they can start looking toward next year. I don't see the trends reversing for this game. Detroit will leave with a third victory... Philadelphia will blink the confusion from their eyes and ask if the season has started yet.

Miami (0-2) at New York Jets (0-2)... Miami is not good. NYJ have to be better than their current Oh-fer suggests. Throw in a little bit of home field advantage and a blown kiss for good luck and I'm fairly confident of a NYJ victory.

Buffalo (0-2) at New England (2-0)... Upset!...sike. New England.

Arizona (1-1) at Baltimore (1-1)... I don't care about this game at all. For the sake of the pick, Baltimore.

Saint Louis (0-2) at Tampa Bay (1-1)... I feel like I'm just echoing RJ. But great minds think alike, yada yada yada. Tampa Bay.

San Francisco (2-0) at Pittsburgh (2-0)... If this was in San Fransico, I'd consider this for an upset pick. But in Pittsbugh no chance.

Indianapolis (2-0) at Houston (2-0)... Here on the other hand... I'm going Texans all the way.

San Diego (1-1) at Green Bay (2-0)... Green Bay. Because the Eagles' loss to them will feel more palpable if Green Bay goes undefeated this year.

Minnesota (1-1) at Kansas City (0-2)... Kansas City gets their first win of the year in front on unenthusiastic hometown fans.

    Cleveland (1-1) at Oakland (0-2)... C-c-c-c-leavelend.

Jacksonville (1-1) at Denver (2-0)... Gahd. I don't know. Jacksonville.

Cincinnati (1-1) at Seattle (1-1)... Seattle. Just because I like Cincy to lose.

New York Giants (0-2) at Washington (2-0)... Washington by a landslide.

Carolina (1-1) at Atlanta (0-2)... Carolina.

Dallas (2-0) at Chicago (1-1)... Chicago. I think Dallas is going to be stifled and won't respond offensively at all.

Tennessee (1-1) at New Orleans (0-2)... This game is in New Orleans. Tennessee is going to have a rough time of it and, as a result, not win.

Tough week with some tough match ups.. Last week 50% underdogs won outright against spread.. so figure this week is going to be tough.. will the favorites get their act together? or will this week be another shoot out?

    week 3:

PHILLY: odds of Detroit starting season off 3-0 much greater than philly starting 0-3. i dunno tough game.

JETS: cant see the jets losing.. it is football though

    PATS: bet it all?
"I would literally consider betting my life savings on this one, if I actually had a life savings to bet." - RJ
Reminds me of week 9 2006 MIAMI VS CHICAGO.. and.. well we all know what happened.. :) :) :)

BALTIMORE: arizona surprised last week but no way they can do it again..

ST.LOUIS: tough game rams lost first two at home, i say they take this one on the road.

PITTSBURGH: this is A TRUE TEST FOR THE 9ERS.. If they can keep this one close, its going to be a good year!!. if they get blown out.. not expecting to much for the season.

INDY: interesting game thats all i have to say about it..

SD: GB doesn't have to win this game to go to the post season... if they do i will be mildly tickled.

KC: i would imagine improvements can be made.. especially at home.. and against a mediocre vikings team.

CLEVELAND: blehh... this is a game oakland can win on their schedule.. BUT home field advantage means nothing at the coliseum. expect a tight game..

DENVER: would be a good win for JAX... unlikely

CINCINATTI: better team, better ingredients, better beer.. or pizza

WASHINGTON: skins playing well.. NYG.. struggling

CAROLINA: although i wouldnt bet the house..

    CHICAGO: turnovers, low scoring.. naturally

NEW ORLEANS: cmon now losing three in a row?.. the third being at home?? unlikely

See...that's why I don't pick these games. I'm way to sentimental for my team...even though that would have given me a win that none of you seemed to have. I wouldn't even go down to the local watering hole to watch my giants play yesterday...way to many skins fans around here!!! And then there are those teams I hate...the ones I just can't make myself pick...and they all win too.

But it's fun to watch you folks attempt it!
