Ole Miss, You Just Got Gamecocked

Part of: NewsFlash

Mississippi football has been a trendy pick to contend in the SEC this year, and many people were looking on with puzzling disbelief at how high the Rebels were ranked this year. I guess those naysayers are finally getting their wish after Ole Miss fell to South Carolina, 16-10.

It really was an ugly game. Mississippi couldn't notch a touchdown until the fourth quarter, and coach Houston Nutt made a curious decision to, down six with six minutes and change left, to punt the ball on 4th and 1 on the Ole Miss 42-yard line. It was a conservative play for a conservative state which pretty much summed up their tentative game plan.

And like the most popular girl in school getting a nose pimple, now Ole Miss is left Noxzemaing herself while Steve Spurrier's Gamecocks are the toast of the senior hallway. The ESPN booth analyst even called SC a "top 15 team." Really? This was a big win, but they're 38th in the USA Today poll and were completely absent from the AP poll.

This also doesn't bode well for Jevan Snead's Heisman visions. The Ole Miss quarterback was 7-for-21 with 107 yards and a touchdown. Nine penalties and going 1-for-13 on third down pretty much sums up the night in Columbia.

Two more top-five SEC teams play on the road this weekend: Alabama at Arkansas and Florida at Kentucky. They seem like easy wins, but so did Mississippi over South Carolina.

they lost but you are mistaken, ole miss punted and then got the ball back due to their defense, it was the right move at the time, that punt did not loss them the game.

Hmmm if you actually KNOW college football then you know that this win was not that shocking an upset. You would've known that Ole Miss was overranked, SC beat them last year in Oxford as a weaker team than they are now. So the only folks that should've expected an easy win for Ole Miss or been shocked by SC's win are folks that aren't very well informed.

    Easy win?
