NHL Playoffs: Round Two

First, let's see how I did with my picks for the first round:

Rangers/Devils: My pick - Jersey in six. Reality - Jersey in four. So I gave the Rangers too much credit. 1-0

Lightning/Senators: My pick - Ottawa in five. Reality - Ottawa in five. Perfecto! 2-0

Hurricanes/Canadians: My pick - Carolina in seven. Reality - Carolina in six. 3-0

Sabres/Flyers: My pick - Buffalo in six. Reality - Buffalo in six. 4-0

Red Wings/Oilers: My pick - Detroit in five, maybe four. Reality - Oilers in six. Ouch!! 4-1

Stars/Avalanche: My pick - Dallas in five. Reality - Colorado in 5. Double ouch. 4-2

Mighty Ducks/Flames: My pick — Anaheim in seven. Reality — Anaheim in seven. PHEW! 5-2

Sharks/Predators: My pick — San Jose in six. maybe seven. Reality — San Jose in five. Thought Nashville would have put up more of a fight. 6-2.

Only two wrong — and those were two that most people agreed with me on. So on to the next round!

In the East:

Sabres/Senators: Both of these teams play quick hockey, so no matter who wins, it's going to be a very offensive series. But Ottawa dominated Buffalo during the regular season, so I'm going to go with them. Ottawa in six, maybe seven.

Hurricanes/Devils: Jersey has been resting after their sweep of the Rangers. Carolina has been working hard against the Habs. I think this is the round the Devils will run into an obstacle: Carolina in six.

In the West:

Sharks/Oilers: The battle of the teams that nobody expected to be here. The Oilers have shown that they have potential, and they can go up against the best and win. The problem is that we still don't know which Edmonton team will show up. AND they messed up my predictions last round, so San Jose in seven, though this is one I'll probably be wrong on.

Mighty Ducks/Avalanche: The Ducks looked good in the first round. The Avs were impressive. Dallas couldn't compete, and I don't think Anaheim will either. Colorado in six

Now, remember - I'm 6-2 so far in the playoffs. Let the argument begin!!

Carolina will give them problems, but NEVER underestimate the Devils in the playoffs...

Well...I'm hoping San Jose wins, but those bastards in Edmonton are tricky...

The Avs are going to have to work to make my prediction come true in their series. San Jose is off to a good start. And the Sabres are looking quite good against the Sens.

Might be 50% in this round. That will make me 8-4 overall -- 75% accuracy isn't TOO bad, I guess.

Every series is looking like a sweep so far...

    Roscoe --

Are you talking about the East Finals, or the championship series? Those two teams can't play each other for the cup...

And it's looking like I'm going to be 2-2 in this round, unless the Avs and the Sens wake up.

Nice sweep for the Ducks! I'm 0-1 so far in this round, 6-3 overall.

I wonder if the 'Canes will be able to sweep the Devils when Game 4 is in the Meadowlands. Yes, they've won there already in the series, but this time the crowd will be fired up.

It looks like the Sabres will win their series, but Ottawa isn't going to lay down for them. The next few games in that series should be interesting.

And now I'm 1-1. Good job, Buffalo Sabres, and congratulations.

And just when I thought that the Sharks/Oilers series was over, Edmonton surprises me. This one will keep going, and it looks like Edmonton might surprise me after all.

And Jersey keeps from being swept. But game 5 is in Carolina. I don't think it will go to six.

And I'm an idiot -- that should say 0-2.

    I'm going to bed.
