Well, what another dull week in the ACC - though at least last week was predictable for once. The big mama-jama game was yesterday, with Boston College managing to end the streak of teams earning the #2 ranking and surrendering it the next week. It was a good one, and the recap will be up later tonight.
Otherwise, well, *yawn*. If Wake, Virginia, and Florida State can't handle UNC, NC State, and Duke, ...I'll go buy myself some NC State schwag and wear it around (while I get my butt kicked because people will think I'm a Penn State fan wearing Ohio State colors). And sure, Clemson at Maryland should be a good game, but both of these teams have already taught us to assume nothing.
Winners: Wake, Virginia, FSU, Maryland
Larry Taylor didn’t realize it at the time, but the Big East’s second all-time leading kick returner made UConn a lot of enemies within the conference when he pulled a fast one on Louisville last Friday night.
By now, of course, everyone has heard about Taylor’s antics involving what looked to be a fake “fair catch” in which he ran back for the game-tying touchdown in the biggest win in the history of Connecticut football.
What Taylor did was foolish and coach Randy Edsall has handled it poorly by refusing to admit that his player did something inexcusable. Edsall said he doesn’t want anymore distractions for his team, who plays host to No. 10 South Florida this weekend.
What Edsall should know is that his Huskies now have a sign on their back and Big East teams are going to do everything they can to make a statement against them. Not just this year, but for seasons to come.
It starts this week with USF, who is coming off its first loss last weekend. Expect the Bulls’ defense to give the Huskies, who aren’t great offensively, fits all afternoon. UConn will need to turn in a monumental defensive performance to pull of the upset, because one or two scores simply won’t hold up this week.
Prediction: USF 27-14
West Virginia and Rutgers also meet this week in game that could still decide who goes to the BCS from the conference. The Mountaineers are still banged up and the Scarlet Knights are at home and coming off a big win last weekend against USF. I like Rutgers in a close one.
Not a lot going on in the Big Ten this weekend...Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Indiana will play each other to sort out the logjam in the middle of the conference. Iowa and Michigan State will play for pride. Michigan will...well, try and beat the spread, I guess, because that should be far more challenging than beating Minnesota. Illinois makes another trip out of conference for Ball State.

Hi, Josh, your fan club checking in...
Wow, I had forgotten about the intense hatred Bama has toward Phil. Thanks for reminding me, lol. Funny how just a couple of weeks ago the Tenn/SC tilt was expected to be possibly the one that decided the East. But UT gets their 3rd blowout (when they lose, they lose big) and Spurrier actually loses to Vandy. I think you'll get your wish in this game, however.
Ga/Fla...oh yeah, Florida all the way.
And the others:
Auburn/Ole Miss: despite the loss last week, the War Eagles have played much better since dropping one at home vs. Moo State in week 3 and will probably win out from here. So of course they'll take this one against a coach who is in a race with Bill Callaghan to the head of the unemployment line.
MSU/KY: Moo State in an upset! Yeah, dream on.
