NCAA Football Week 13 Preview - Page 5

Part of: BC Tailgate

#11 USC at #7 Arizona St (Thursday 8:00pm EST)
Happy Turkey Day! I'm not talking about that big bird your going to eat for dinner tonight, I'm actually talking about the Trojans, who were a preseason favorite and have lost the luster on their crown by losing to Stanford and Oregon this year. They still are looking for a Rose Bowl shot and a possible share of the Pac 10 championship when they take on
the Sun Devils who have surprised everybody this year. This should actually be a pretty good matchup, but I expect that if the Trojans defense can shut down Arizona State, USC will be coming out of this game with a win.

#9 Oregon at UCLA
After losing to Arizona last week, the Ducks are out of the national championship picture. But with a win today, the Ducks keep themselves firmly in the middle of the Pac 10 championship race, and a possible shot at the Rose Bowl. Dennis Dixon looks to be sitting out this week after last week's injury, and we are going to see some playing time from Brady Leaf. For Oregon to win this game, they need to have a strong day from Johnathan Stewart against a tough UCLA defense. They are also going to need Leaf to make some passes downfield to take the pressure off the run game that they will need to rely on. If Leaf and Steward have success today, this game should go to Oregon.

Other Games
Notre Dame at Stanford (Saturday 3:30pm EST)
Washington State at Washington (Saturday 7:00pm EST)

As I sit and write this... late... LSU is out in front of Arkansas 6-0 and Mississippi State is losing to awful Ole Miss 14-7 in the fourth quarter. The first game isn't much of a surprise, the second one is a big surprise. MSU is already bowl eligible but had an opportunity to play for a bigger, better bowl. If this score holds, they'll have finished their season on a two-game losing streak. Ole Miss, meanwhile, hasn't won a single SEC game this year.

The big game this week is big only because of the tradition and the intensity of the rivalry, not because either team is worth half a damn. It's Iron Bowl week, and Alabama can make up (partially) for two unfathomable losses by ending their five-game losing streak against the Auburn Tigers.

Don't bet on it.

Alabama has lost at Mississippi State and at home to Louisiana-Monroe. There is no reason to think there is any magic left in that team, having used their last ounce of it in demolishing Tennessee. Auburn, meanwhile, hasn't been great and is coming off a 25-point loss to surging Georgia but they still look like the hotter team just because Alabama looks so pathetic.

    To: Big 12 Athletic Conference:
The Big 12 athletic conference should add men's soccer as a sport. Soccer has increased in popularity and boys should have the dream of playing for their favorite Big Twelve team.
