Did Sacramento receive enough in return for three All-Star-caliber players in Brad Miller, Ron Artest, and Mike Bibby? Not a single piece remains from the Bibby deal, for instance, whose contract would've expired after this season anyway (not to mention it lead to re-signing Beno Udrih).
The Bibby trade didn't lead to re-signing Beno: Beno playing well in the 2008 led to re-signing Beno. And let's be honest, the Kings would have re-signed Beno regardless ... since Bibby would be in his final year. But the Bibby trade didn't get much of anything back. The Miller trade will have to be judged this summer, which is the only summer in which there is a net positive change to the salary cap figures due to the trade. I think the Artest trade was a success, given the mitigating circumstances (contract length, limited market).
Did the Maloofs blow it by not extending Rick Adelman's contract, especially with the Kings now looking for an "experienced" head coach like Mike Fratello or Eddie Jordan? Personally, I'd love to coax Hubie Brown out of retirement after the amazing job he did in Memphis. And plus, you can never have enough Hubie in your life.
You can't beat Hubie. The Adelman situation was untenable: R.A. was so angry at the Maloofs for chasing Phil Jackson that he would have never again felt comfortable coaching the team. That's not a productive environment; as much as it would have been nice to give it one more run with Artest, Adelman and the gang, it wouldn't have ended well.
The Kings will presumably be well under the cap in the much-heralded summer of 2010. Any chance of seeing LeBron, Wade, Bosh, or Amare in the purple and black?
No, no, no, only if the Suns trade him this summer or next deadline.
Thanks again for your time and keep up the great work.
Happy to help.
