Three sophomores are in our top five quarterbacks this year, a result highly unusual versus years past in fantasy college football. The theme for this year, and every other, is that we reward consistency of production on a week-to-week basis - a 5-spot from your QB kills your chances of winning.
"All-FCF" votes cast by Drew Smith, Daniel Freer, and me of the Fantasy College Blitz Staff. Top fives were submitted, with points awarded in reverse order of finish (5 pts for 1st place, 4 pts for 2nd, etc.).
Here are some relevant links that formed the basis for our year end awards, followed by our Top Five:
Offical Scoring System | FCB Preseason QB Rankings | Points Responsible For
1. Colt Brennan, Jr., Hawaii (433 FPs)
Our unanimous choice for the first team signal-caller played most of his games after most of us went to bed or were two buckets deep in the beer special. The level of Brennan's dominance in 2006 is stunning upon further analysis. Only three QBs passed for 4000 yards this year — Brennan will surpass 5000 after his first completion of the bowl game.
Brennan led the nation in "Points Responsible For" with 27.54 per game - no one else averaged more than 20. And of course, David Klingler''s long standing record of TD passes in a season is soon to fall — Brennan sits at 53, just one shy of the former gunslinger at Houston. The TDs alone were worth 212 points!
2. Chase Holbrook, So., New Mexico State (281 FPs)
The former option QB led the nation in yards per game passing, pass attempts, and completions. The Air Raid offense hasn't looked this good since the days of Tim Couch at Kentucky. Holbrook had a TD pass in every game this year, and this amazing consistency led him to our second team vote.
