Ex-Steelers WR Nate Washington Signs With Tennessee

Part of: Steelin' The Spotlight

I've always been a fan of Nate Washington. I believe he has major talent. To me, he's an excellent addition to Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes. Even when Nate dropped a big pass, I never criticized him. He was one of the few Steelers I never criticized. I have to say, I will miss him. On Monday Nate left the Steelers and joined the Tennessee Titans.

Nate — who has two Super Bowl rings with the Steelers — signed with Tennessee for six years and $27 million, with $9 million guaranteed. I believe he is being overpaid, but I don't blame Nate for taking the bait.

Nate said Tennessee's basically "a carbon copy of Pittsburgh. I was pretty much leaving Pittsburgh and coming to Pittsburgh." If I had to guess, I'd say Nate just didn't want to be behind Santonio and Hines. He wants to be the next Super Bowl MVP. I understand that.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said about Nate, "He clearly can run. He runs very well. He ran by a lot of good defensive players this past year. He's a football player, and that's what you need at the position. He makes catches and can get open. He's going to be productive. He does everything that you want a good receiver to do."

Meanwhile, the Steelers have Limas Sweed to look forward to as the third wide receiver. Many Steelers fans have high hopes, but I say he's a bust. He's the guy who dropped the pass in the AFC championship game against the Ravens and then faked an injury. This cost the Steelers a timeout. Later they ran out of time and the Steelers couldn't kick a field goal at the end of the first half. I do not like Limas Sweed. He is no Nate Washington.

It'll probably be good for Nate to be a Titan. He'll get a lot more action and he's making big bucks. Nate, have fun in Tennessee, but don't blame me when the Steelers win the Super Bowl next year again.

You are kidding me right? You think Sweed is a bust because he dropped one pass? Do you even take the time to consider that he is essentially a senior in college? Just 3 or 4 years older than you? Please, it is people like you that drive a base of Steelers "fans" of negative thinking and ill minded.
