Future NFL Hall of Famer and linebacker Derrick Brooks officially announced his NFL retirement Thursday in Tampa. He has not played since the 2008 season, but Tampa fans still remember him, love him and respect him.
Brooks played his college career in Tallahassee with the Florida State University Seminoles, and his team won the first national championship for Bobby Bowden in 1993. Brooks graduated early and went on to earn his master degree.
Brooks played his entire NFL career of 14 years with Tampa Bay, and he went to the Pro Bowl 11 times. He was on the defense that brought a Super Bowl championship to the Bucs.
The linebacker played his entire football career in Florida, and gained the respect of football aficionados across the state. Tampa Bay fans were disappointed in 2009 when the new Buccaneer management cut Derrick from the team. Fans were even more depressed as the season progressed.
Derrick Brooks will be missed on the gridiron, but there is no doubt, he will make the Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
