Crowning a New Guard - Page 3

Part of: When Kingdom Come

Class is in SessionsRamon Sessions, Milwaukee (Restricted): Sessions has quietly made a name for himself around the league, averaging nearly 14 points and 8 assists per game after the All-Star break. He's demonstrated impressive court vision, can consistently knock down the mid-range jumper, and just might be had for the full mid-level exception with Luke Ridnour projected to remain the starter for the Bucks. I should note that I'm a little partial to Sessions after he singlehandedly won me a fantasy championship with his epic 20-point, 24-assist game at the end of the 2007-08 season.

Raymond Felton, Charlotte (Restricted): Although he's one of the worst shooters at his position (under 40% FG for his career), Felton makes up for his offensive shortcomings with his hustle and aggressive defense. He's a good ball distributor who doesn't hurt the team by taking a lot of bad shots, and is certainly worth exploring if D.J. Augustin's emergence makes Felton expendable to the Bobcats. Of course, I say that now, but I'll be screaming for him to make an open jumpshot when he's 2-17 from the field on opening night.

Jarrett Jack, Indiana (Restricted): While Jack averaged a career-best 13.1 points per game last season, he also committed nearly as many turnovers (276) as assists (338). A strong and physical combo-guard who'd instantly become the team's best defender (that's not really saying much), he's prone to call his own number on offense and drive to the basket, oftentimes throwing the ball away on a jump pass. The Kings have enough of that on the roster already.

Anthony Carter, Denver / Brevin Knight, Utah: If Bobby Jackson doesn't re-sign with the Kings, either one of these players can step in and take over the vacant backup point guard slot... or even challenge for the starting job if the incumbent Udrih is the only challenger at the position. I'd rather not think about this possibility just yet.

I say go for Iverson and Marbury. It'll be the first time in NBA history a team never passes.
