Bill Cowher won a Super bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL against the Seattle Seahawks. A year later, he retired from coaching and on February 15, 2007, he joined CBS'The NFL Today as a studio analyst with Dan Marino, Shannon Sharpe, and Boomer Esiason. He lives in North Carolina, where he went to college. But now he is rumored to become the Cleveland Browns head coach, replacing Romeo Crennel.
As a player, Cowher played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Browns. His playing career lasted five years, only two years at the Browns. Cowher also coached the Browns from 1985-1988 as a special teams coach and a secondary coach. From 1989 to 1991, he was a defensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs. After that, he moved to Pittsburgh, where he grew up, as a head coach. He went went 161-99-1 as a head coach for Pittsburgh.Browns fans want Cowher to be their head coach. There's even a website — Cowher Power 09 — devoted to it, their saying being, "Unleash the Power of Cowher." They even have shirts. There's a petition for fans to sign as well as a forum. They want 73,200 signatures, as many seats in the Browns' stadium. As of December 26th, they had 12,155. Not too bad.
Browns fan Ryan Martz, who co-created Cowher09.com with partner Sam Lambert, said about Cowher, "He's a coach who knows how to handle players and he could tell Braylon Edwards what to do and keep him in line. And, he knows the AFC North" and added he's "going to do everything possible" to get Cowher.
Steeler players have commented on Cowher potentially going to coach the Browns. Defensive end Brett Keisel said, "That would shock me (if he coached the Browns). But it's his decision. If he wants to do it, that would be great. I would get to see him a couple of more times a year, which I would like. It would be cool."
