As an avid soccer fan in my younger days, I was constantly reading the newspapers and later searching the Internet for articles about my favourite sport.
These days, however, particularly since the arrival of my fiftieth birthday, I seem to lack the will power to deal with the ups and downs of my chosen team (Chelsea FC) and the national disaster that is team England.
Other things suddenly seem much more important than sport and, although I still enjoy the occasional high points of any England sports performance and cheer like crazy when things are going well, I seem to have turned into one of those "you only sing when you're winning" types that used to drive me mad a few years back.
The rest of the time I just cannot be bothered.
It feels like a waste of time even just loading the BBC sports page because I know that there is likely to be very little that will grab me. Is that because I am a grumpy old man and a bad loser, or is journalism descending into a pit of hopelessness and written only for the teen-agers and less demanding in society?
I just do not know, but that's how it seems from here.

Yeah, supporting Chelsea will do that to a person...

Yup...and I would have been ROTFL at that but my knees are killing me and I think arthritis is starting to set in.

I suspect that Frank Lampard and John Terry are thinking about using the same excuse.
