The biggest story of the weekend in the NBA featured a team not in the playoffs. The New York Knicks hired Suns coach Mike D'Antoni to be their coach for the next four years, signing him to a $24 million contract. D'Antoni's style of coaching suits the Knicks perfectly because while he doesn't preach defense, the Knicks are well accustomed to defense given the number of times they've had to defend themselves in court.
In active NBA news, the playoffs races have become actual competitions, with the Spurs, Cavaliers and Jazz all tying up their respective series with the Hornets, Celtics, and Lakers 2-2 after being down 2-0. With the exception of the Detroit Pistons Game 4 win in Orlando, the home team has won every game in the second round. Because of this, Commissioner David Stern is launching an investigation into the possibility of team with home field advantage outsourcing their road games to the Miami Heat.
In NFL/baseball news, Cowboys quarterback and Illinois native Tony Romo sang "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" at Wrigley Field this weekend, but not well. Later that day the Chicago Cubs was inundated with angry phone calls and complaints from fans in attendance asking them to never again play a Bob Dylan song during the seventh inning.
Cleveland Indians second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera became the 14th player in modern history to record an unassisted triple play. The last time one player got three guys out in an inning without any help was whenever the last time someone pitched to the San Francisco Giants.
Inspections of all 30 major league baseball stadium concession stands ruled that Angel Stadium is the worst offender of health codes, finding 732 violations. The Angels were faced with a choice to either correct the violations, or rename their ballpark Sizzler.
And finally, a speeding boat in Scotland's Loch Lomond lost control, hit some rocks, and flew onto a golf course, crashing into a sand trap. In other news David Duval has been missing for 72 hours.
