Barry Bonds’ Trainer Would Rather Go To Jail Than Cooperate With The Feds

As a new grand jury has been convened to investigate allegations that Barry Bonds has evaded taxes and committed perjury, lawyers for Bonds’ personal trainer Greg Anderson – a convicted steroid distributor and money launderer – say he won’t cooperate with the authorities under any conditions. The grand jury’s term is 18 months, so it is possible that Anderson is looking at a long stretch in the pokey for his intransigence.

Mark Geragos, the very high profile lawyer who represents Anderson has said that his client will not testify in front of a grand jury because of “the gross, callous and destructive breeches of grand jury secrecy in this case create ample just cause for Mr. Anderson’s refusal to testify.”

Is this really the kind of logic that lawyers can get away with these days? Without any proof whatsoever that the government is behind the leaks of grand jury testimony Mr. Geragos has decided that it must be the fed’s fault, and so his client shouldn’t have to testify. Whatever happened to the concept of innocent until proven guilty?

Who has more to gain by leaking information from the grand jury testimony, the defense or the prosecution? An admitted drug dealer or a prosecutor trying to get an indictment?

As a matter of fact in all of this talk about leaks, the only indication that we have of the source of any leaks is that Victor Conte, Anderson's boss at Balco, leaked information to the journalists at the San Francisco Chronicle.  These are the same journalists who went on to write the book Game of Shadows.

By the way, how is it that Greg Anderson can manage to retain and afford a lawyer like Geragos who has been a part of some of the highest profile cases in recent history?

Here is a very funny line attributed to someone named Paula Canny who is identified as a lawyer and a friend of Greg Anderson, “He’s resigned to do whatever it takes to maintain his integrity.” Maintain his integrity? Apparently Ms. Canny was being serious and said this with a straight face.

Yeah, great,Greg Anderson who has done nothing wrong,no jury has convicted him,he hasnt been charged with anything,is stuck in jail for not ratting on his friend. However,Scooter Libby gets to walk AFTER being convicted for EXACTLY the same thing that they want to get Bonds on.Great justice system we have.Very fair.By the way,Anderson paid the penalty for his crimes, has congressman Patrick Kennedy ever paid a price for his?
