Alabama Hammers Florida for SEC Title

Part of: NewsFlash

If last year's game was a classic tug-of-war, this SEC Championship Game was a revenge beatdown and Alabama was on the giving end this time to the tune of 32-13.

Florida, the nation's number one defense, gave up over 400 yards of offense to the Crimson Tide who never trailed in the game. Alabama's Greg McElroy shredded the Gators for 239 yards with precision passing while Heisman-hopeful Mark Ingram ran around, by, and over the opposition scoring a SEC-record-tying three touchdowns on the way to a victory. Ingram finished the game with 113 yards on 28 carries and two receptions for 76 yards.

Tim Tebow looked well below average as he was held in check all day by a ferocious pass rush and excellent coverage by the Alabama defense. Twice in the second half Alabama forced turnovers (one interception, one on downs) with Florida in the redzone. Alabama's offense made the most of every opportunity sustaining long scoring drives in the game including a 17 play, 88 yard drive that started in the third quarter, went into the fourth taking up 8:47 and ended one of Ingram's touchdowns. As a team, Alabama rushed for 226 yards.

Alabama will now play in the BCS Championship Game on January 7, 2010 in Pasadena, CA.
