Bowling Green had a bit of trouble in the much-heralded GMAC Bowl Sunday night against the Tulsa Golden Sho... Hurricanes. In an attempt to apply for a position coach position with the Patriots, Tulsa head coach Todd Graham ran up the score until the last possession. (Rice does not miss him.)
In honor of this exploit, we now share the plaintive wail sent back to Toledo by Bowling Green's football team on the way home from the game today. Apologies to Burt Bacharach, Gene Pitney, and anyone old enough to remember either gentleman.
24 Hours from Tulsa
Dearest Bowling Green, we had to write to say that we won't be home anymore
'Cause somethin' happened to us while we were in Detroit
And we're not the same anymore
Oh, we are only 24 hours from Tulsa
Ah, only one day away from the pain
We knew it would be a fight, but nothing prepared for that sight
And that is when Tyler Sheehan saw it
As he pulled out from under center for the last time
It was there and there was nothing he could do
He asked where he was when he woke up the next day
Oh, he was only 24 hours from Tulsa
Ah, only one day away from the pain
We fumbled away the whole game
We cannot handle the shame
It's not okay
Oh, we are only 24 hours from Tulsa
Ah, only one day away from the pain
Oh, the second half started to play
But we wouldn't join in the fray
We stayed
In the locker room
All of a sudden, we lost control of the game
As Todd Graham called another screen
A draw
As he ran up the score
Oh, he was only 24 hours from Tulsa
Ah, only one day away from the pain
We hated to do this to you
But we can't show our faces anew
What can we do?
And we can never never never go to Toledo again
