Let’s face it; meals cooked in a dorm room can be a little drab. There’s a saying that goes, “man cannot live on bread alone,” and neither can a college student live off of Ramen and Easy Mac. However, many college students do not have the money or the time to make elaborate meals. Yet, meals do not have to be Food Network pretentious in order to taste good, nor do they have to be expensive to make. Here are some yummy recipes that are sure to put a new spin on drab dorm food.
One food item that is popular with college students is Easy Mac. The great thing about Easy Mac is that you can buy it in bulk, it is easy to make, and it tastes good. However, eating the same thing every day can be monotonous, but there is a way to spice up your macaroni.
Cheesy Easy Mac
1 packet of microwaveable Easy Mac
2/3 cup of water
1/2 tbs. of sour cream
1/8 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Start with a packet of microwaveable Easy Mac. Pour the macaroni noodles into a bowl and add 2/3 cup of water.
Cook the macaroni in the microwave for about three and a half minutes. Remember time varies by microwave, so be sure to keep an eye on the macaroni. Once the macaroni is finished cooking, take it out and add the cheese packet to the noodles. DO NOT DRAIN THE PASTA.
Then, add 1/8 cup of sharp cheddar cheese. I like to use sharp cheddar because it really adds a zing to the pasta, but any cheese will work here.
After the cheese is stirred in, add half a tablespoon of sour cream. The sour cream really makes the difference here. It gives the macaroni a nice rich flavor. Next, grab a fork and enjoy your deliciously prepared food.
