I’m watching disc one of the Best of Saturday Night Live music box set (25 Years of Music), and Chevy Chase is hosting and reveals that with Carly Simon’s performance of “You’re So Vain” he played cowbell. More cowbell!

As it happens, Long & McQuade are having their annual basement sale tomorrow. I guess I need to buy a cowbell.

I remember pitched battles in residence at college about tuning the teevee (but David Bowie is on tonight on SNL, can’t you just look up your pansy ass football scores tomorrow in the paper — and yes we won, because pansy ass football fans don’t dare challenge steel toe boot punks who are into Bowie).

Plus Paul Simon in a turkey outfit, what’s not to love?

It is still explosive how dynamic Elvis Costello’s performance of “Radio, Radio” is.

About Jim Carruthers

  • Eric Olsen

The cowbell has achieved iconic status on SNL, as well it should – Christopher Walken will be remembered for the “gotta have more cowbell” skit on SNL longer than for “Deer Hunter.”

I kind of liked when Chevy did the signature pratfalls, but boy have you seen him recently? He’s put on some serious weight. I hope (seriously) that he’s ok.

Chevy Chase hosting disc one of this series (1975 – 80) … let me put it this way.

Did you ever see the movie “Weekend At Bernies”? Well, it is not dissimilar.

Disc Two is hosted by Martin Short, and we know he is still good to go.
