Have you had the opportunity to leisurely tour a rock star’s guitar collection? Now you can with The Guitar Collection: George Harrison, an iPad app that offers an interactive journey through the late musician’s extensive collection of iconic guitars. Released with the collaboration of the George Harrison Estate, the app promises an in-depth look at virtually every instrument the ex-Beatle owned.
The program melds audio and video footage, rare photographs, and 360° pictures of every instrument. Every ding and scratch is visible as users can maneuver each photograph to carefully examine each guitar. All entries include a menu listing an overview, song selections, facts, audio excerpts from past Harrison interviews, and even the ability to touch various parts of the instrument to learn about its structure, sound, and more. Additional features include videos of Ben Harper, Josh Homme, Mike Campbell, and, appropriately, Dhani Harrison playing the guitars, explaining their feel and tone. Friend and collaborator Gary Moore lends his views on what made Harrison such an influential artist, and Conan O’Brien interviews Dhani to further explore the collection. Overall, it promises a fascinating study of his famous collection as well as his skill and continuing impact on music.
The Guitar Collection: George Harrison will be available February 23 for $9.99 at the Apple App Store. For more information, visit Harrison’s website and view the preview video below.
