Skype 5 Beta for Mac OSX is now available. The newest update is said to bring features that should put it back on top as the number one VoIP and video chatting software. Skype had this to say: “We’ve redesigned Skype Beta for Mac to make your life simpler. The new single window frees up your desktop and makes it easier than ever to find the contact or conversation you’re looking for.”

What’s New?
Group video calling (beta) allows you to get together with more than two people over the new group video call feature (receiver must also be on Skype 5.0).

New call control bar helps you manage calls from a mini Skype control bar that sits on top of any web pages, documents or photos you’ve got open.

System Requirements

-1GHz Intel processor
-Mac OS X v10.5.8 (Leopard) or newer
-For one-to-one voice calls recommend broadband connection with 1Mbps down / 256 kbps up
-For group video calling (beta) recommend broadband connection with 4Mbps down / 1 Mbps up
-100 MB free disk space
-Either USB or regular headset if your Mac does not have a built-in microphone.
