Britney Spears wants to be treated like an adult but none of the responsibiity that goes with it in the spoiled “I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman.”

An adamant piano opens the song. Stagy strings accompany Spears as she admits she was once a know-it-all teenager. However, she’s learned that life isn’t fair. Yet, she’s torn between stomping her feet about it or moving on from it.

I used to think/I had the answers to everything/But now I know/Life doesn’t always/Go my way, yeah/Feels like I’m caught in the middle/That’s when I realize.

In the chorus, she says she’s not a kid anymore. She adds she’s not ready to be a grown-up, either. She tells her parents she needs this time to do dumb things and get away with them.

I’m not a girl/Not yet a woman/All I need is time/A moment that is mine/While I’m in between.

She reiterates to her parents that she’s not a child. She doesn’t need to be coddled or warned about the evils of the world anymore. She tells them she needs to make lots of mistakes without them saying a word. Besides, she’s done a ton of stuff they don’t even know about.

I’m not a girl/There is no need to protect me/It’s time that I/Learn to face up to this on my own/I’ve seen so much more than you know now/
Don’t tell me to shut my eyes.

In the bridge, she tells her parents not to worry. She’ll find her own solutions to her whatever problems she’s created.

I’m not a girl/But if you look at me closely/You will see it my eyes/This girl will always find/Her way.

In the chorus, she scowls that she doesn’t need any guidance. She’s trying to figure out who she is and to stay out of her life.

I’m not a girl/(I’m not a girl don’t tell me what to believe)/Not yet a woman/
(I’m just tryin’ to find the woman in me, yeah)/All I need is time (All I need)/A moment that is mine (That is mine)/While I’m in between.

The original chorus is sung one more time.

Spears’ end the song by simply saying she’s not grown up yet. “I’m not a girl/not yet a woman.”

“I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman” equates growing up with doing whatever the person wants and not dealing with the consquences. Spears would rather make excuses for her bad behavior and throw temper tantrums to get through adulthood. The independence she is trying to gain is undeserved due to her immaturity.

Someone actually took the time to dissect and review this garrbagge?? To take her seriously enough was a mistake.

  • godoggo

I saw her do this on TV, and the tongue thing she did on the word “girl” and the way she cooed “While I’m in between” made it essential that I go play with myself.

  • LMFAO!

So, stop commenting about, “Too bad, she’s a mom now!” when 1. this song was written by SOMEONE ELSE 2. it wasn’t even about Britney… it was about LUCY from Britney’s movie ‘Crossroads’ and 3. IT WAS MADE YEARS AGO!
