RPG and FPS all in one, that's Borderlands.

Screenshots: Borderlands

If you're like me, you've often thought to yourself "Gee, I'd really love to play a first-person shooter right now, but I'm also kind of hankering for an RPG."  Come this October, 2K Games and Gearbox Software are going to be bringing us a game that is both, Borderlands.

The game promises not just a blend of two great genres, but to be a game that has been designed from the ground-up for co-op play.  Players will be allowed to "freely join or leave each other's games at any time."  The game will have not only four distinct characters, but "an arsenal of hundreds of thousands of weapons."  That's a lot of potential destruction for a single game.

Sound good?  Well, the screenshots look pretty good too, check them out:

Borderlands will carry an "M" rating and be available for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on October 20, 2009.
