We all know computer mags are just porn for geeks and wannabes. So, I'm looking for some real world advice.
I currently have an SMC 7004 wireless router. But it's flakey. The wireless part works okay most of the time, but the wired computers drop their connections sporadically (and I'm running OSX on two of them OS 8.1 on one, and a Newton I haven't got an ethernet card for yet - so if somebody has an ethernet card for a Newton, let's talk).
Now I could just walk into a computer store (we've got a micro Akihabara on Spadina and College just down the street) and come out with a box. But nothing talks like experience. Plus, it is a oneway sale if it won't work to your satisfaction (and no, dropping your pants, and mooning the owner won't make them change their mind — why do you ask?)
I'm thinkin' Linksys since they are just everywhere (did pick up a refurbished Netgear something or other, didn't work, took it back, it was RadioShack - hey, I rhyme!).
So what is everybody using for their DSL WiFi box? Cheap is good.

I'd want them to be separate, actually.
It would be cheaper to upgrade later if you changed standards or providers. Also, easier to deal with a failure.
It sounds like you've got a working WiFi box: adding a router would be cheaper.
You can physically separate two units, putting each where it is most convenient.
I can't suggest any brands, I can't tell the difference. However, I generally get the WiFi card and access point from the same provider, to lower the finger-pointing possibilities from the vendor in case of tech support.
