This is just CRAP. A CTV.ca article reports that the federal government is about to ask the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to revoke it's earlier decision to approve satellite radio broadcasting in Canada. (And it pisses me off too.)
In June, the federal broadcast regulator granted the first satellite radio licences to Sirius — a consortium of Radio-Canada and Standard Radio — and a company called Canadian Satellite Radio (CSR).
As I rudely suggested in a post on this topic, the current broadcast industry has sat on their collective asses and raked in the profits while providing archaic and less than adequate radio service, particularly in rural Canada. Now these fat cats who failed to fill a need are lobbying the government to protect them from satellite radio entrepreneurs.
This type of political interference with an independent public body is totally unacceptable. What ever happened to market forces and supply and demand? I guess they only apply if you don't have the politicians in your back pocket.
